1641 - What happened????

I was just running over the backyard for the first time this year. Bang and lots of screeching and smoke. Shut it down. took off the side covers and the whole harness appears to have wrapped around the PTO? I can't find the manual right now but I think the PTO comes off of the front of the engine. Something like 7 wires have been ripped out. What the heck happened?

Hey Bob,

Can you post a picture, sounds like the headlight harness got caught up in the PTO?

does anyone know if wiring harnesses are sold for a 1641? The whole thing got wrapped up in the PTO.

I was on the phone speaking to somone about this and they tell me the bracket that stops the PTO from spinning must have broke? I am looking in the manual and see nothing about this. Can anyone explain? I have a 1641 serial # 876899. Thanks

I have had this issue with my 1641. If your problem is tha same as mine, your pto clutch went bad and set up causing the whole unit to spin and tale out the wireing and all. You can change it your self it isnt too difficult. The wire just unplugs and the clutch unit comes off after the removal of a large nut. If you have any other questions let me know.

This is what happened. Did you order a new harness or rewire it yourself? My harness is ripped into pieces.

I am not sure of that, mine did not tear up the wireing harness. All I had to do was un plug one clutch remove it and install the new one. I would have to say you cub cadet deal;er should have the harness too. They might be able to give you some insight on how to install it. I know my dealer has been very supportive if I have any questions about how to do any repairs.

sorry for the late reply... I did find a harness for a good price on eBay. The torque plate has been o/s at Cub for a long time. I found one in TX this morning. Nor sure yet if the PTO is bad also. I will find out this weekend.
