While performing an oil change on a 1710 yesterday, I attempted to change the oil in the pump as well. I was rather surprised when I could find neither a level nor drain plug anywhere on the pump body. Most inline pumps I run across either have a self contained reservoir or they have a pressure lube line from the engine. This one seems different in that respect.

Anyone familiar with this tractor/pump combination and how it's lube system is serviced?

This looks like the pump in question.

Hi Fedup,

On my 1710, the item #34 was covered by the fuel hose between the filter and the pump. I put a longer hose in with a loop to gain access to the fill plug. Says to dump a few ounces of oil in, but no mention of draining.

Read up a bit more. Says 2 ounces. Other threads say to remove the top plug, "level" plug, and drain plug, allow old oil to drain. Put in bottom drain, and fill till oil drools out the "level" hole. Put in full and top plug.

Top view, looking down on the pump. Fill plug is beneath the left clamp holding the two fuel lines.
Picture taken right after the new fuel line with a bit of a loop just installed. Hopefully, it now has a nice coating of dust like everything else.

I found the fill plug with no problem. It's the level and drain plugs that don't seem to be there.

So your book says to simply add 2 oz of motor oil and call it good? I guess if that's all there is to it then I'll go with that. I assume it must somehow find it's way into the crankcase at some point.

Thanks

Okay, sounds like a plan.

One would "assume" that the big screw plug on the side would be the "full" mark.. BUT that ISNT the case..
U take THAT screw out & the governor falls apart.!!!
The book doesn't tell u THAT..
