I have a 1715 with about 900 hrs on it. Here lately the hydraulics have been slow, they wine, and are real jerky.

I thought I would change the fluid today to see if that helps, since it was real milky. Parts store did not have a new filter so I reused old one. This did no good. Same problem.

So I pulled off the intake pipe. Replaced the o ring at filter. Rubber hose by pump is iffy at best, but no where to get one today.

Put it all back together and same thing. Then the hydraulics quit all together.

The 3-point and FEL both have the same symptoms.

Where should I start to trouble shoot?

I plan on making the 30 mile trip and getting a hose and filter in the morning.

Thansk guys

Bill

Milky hyd fluid is a sign of water contamination. Water causes a lot of problems. You are going to need more parts. Don't go the 30 miles before someone on this forum helps you identify the problem. I am not expert enough. Wait for other responses.

Bill,

Milky oil means moisture contamination and potentially rust on some internal components. Gear pump components and seals don't do well with moisture. You need to take care of hose problem, change filter and with the new oil you have try to diagnose problem step by step.

Need to establish pressure or flow condition given clue to pump operation. You'll need a liquid filled gauge to 5000 psi rating for pressure testing. Need to establish what pressure you are making at the main hydraulic relief device. Can remove part of pump discharge either at the pump (very messy) or where it ties to hyd block (diverter) for the loader and bucket to verify pump flow operation. Does the whine stops or changes as you move the lift arm lever up and down?

My guess is that you might be very close to a pump overhaul given the fact of running the hyd system/ pump with milky oil for some time.

from what im reading your hydro pump is out completely.they will whine real bad for a while sometimes before they go out.ive had a hydro pump go out on me twice so i know how it sounds.my dad was real good at working on tractors so when the pump would go out he would overhaul it.if you do it yourself becareful an dont pinch the seal.or youll be over hauling it again.

Here is what I have done and in what order

1. Changed fluid (not filter as parts store did not have one). No change in performance

2. Replaced o-ring on suction line. No change in performance

3. Replaced rubber hose on suction line. Helped a little. Stil poor performance.
I used a clear hose so I could see if fluid was moving. I would see slugs of air bubbles every so often

4. Replaced o-ring on top of pump (was hard).
Cleaned relief valve
Changed fluid again
Installed new filter.

Hydraulics are now working great. More speed than when I first purchased tractor (used) and no wine/jerk. Also better than when I change the fluid last fall.

Now I need to come up with a hose for the suction line as a permanent replacement. The clear reinforced one I used may last a bit but would rather have one made for hydraulic oil.

I would for sure be getting the filter clean too. Glad to hear you got hyd working better tho.
