thinking about buying a 1715 MFWD 9x3 that has 1500 hours on it. It is a has a FEL & Woods backhoe on it.

I have been trying to get some specs on it, but can get little more than it weighs 2200 lbs. & has a 63" WB. Hoping to get a little more. Also, seems like there are a fair amount of clutch problems & in general concerned about how difficult it is for getting parts for these old Ford tractors.

What is a tractor like this worth, & are my fears for getting parts for it unfounded?

parts or easy the clutch problems were caused because the cotter pin the the drain whole the the trans bellhousing was put in upside down but they are easy to get parts for i have done a clutch job on one about two months ago and just got one in to do another clutch job because the clutches rust stuck because the pin is in upside down but i have down about 15 and nearly all of the had this problem and all was around 2000 hours when i did it

it is about a 850 dollar fix thats what is charge

the tractor is around 25hp and has a single stage clutch

these where a good econmy tractor and is worth around 8500-12000 depending on the shape and what tires is on it

I have the exact same tractor that you are talking about. Mine is a '93' with the WOODS 7500 backhoe (I got to use mine today) and a factory FEL. Most all of the parts are available from any of the CASE/NEW HOLLAND dealers, I have purchased parts from MESSICK'S online and over the phone. I have found that the CASE/NEW HOLLAND website has the best parts breakdown, then I use the part numbers on the MESSICK'S site. I have about 1200 hours on my tractor and had the clutch replaced the first time because the bell-housing had filled full of water (yes there is a cotter pin in the bottom of the bell-housing and you should check it often to make sure that it is not clogged. I just replaced the clutch again back in March ( I do alot of loader work) and to save money I went with an after market clutch, pressure plate, T.O. bearing and pilot bearing. So far everything is working fine after about 60 hours. Before I put the tractor back together with the new clutch I used PERMATEX form-a-gasket where the tractor splits to keep water out (tractor is always stored outside uncovered). There are sellers on eBay that have repair and service manuals available if you want more detailed written info.. I am very happy with mine and put about 100 hours a year on it now.

the bellhousing is filling with water because the cotter pin is installed up side down and wont let the condensation out

Condensation would not be enough to fill the bell housing with water, rain water can enter the flange at the starter and at the back of the engine where there is a flat plate that is between the engine and the bell housing. The orientation of the cotter pin would have no bearing on whether or not water drains out of the bell housing. The reason for the cotter pin is to provide a mechanism that will vibrate and thus keeping the weep hole open. If you are working in conditions that would cause the weep hole to become completely clogged then the cotter pin cannot vibrate to keep the hole open that is why I recommend that you should check it regularly and make sure that it is clear. In addition the owners manual states that for storage you should place a block between the clutch peddle arm and the bottom of the step to separate the clutch from the flywheel.

yes sir it would newholland had a recall on them tractors because of that i have work on alot of them with is problem

Are any of the gears synchronized? A shuttle shift? or, just a 3 forward & 1 reverse w/ 3 ranges & you cannot change gears or ranges while on the move?

No synchros, no shuttle shift, just a real basic model tractor.

You can shift gears on the move, but they are exactly 100% sync'd. For a range change, you need to be stopped.

I've had mine for about 8 years now. I did a ring job last year due to a leaky air filter letting dust in. It's been about 60 hours since that work and it's still strong.

Yesterday, I waxed the paint and it looks new again aside from the scratches and dings.

I wish I had a backhoe. I just have a heavy duty 60" box with the hydraulic top, tilt and ripper teeth.

Overall a good tractor. You do need to glow plug it anytime the engine is "cold". It doesn't have the fancy injection system like the newer machines. Although I have started it when it was stored overnight in -10°F temps for snow plowing.

Does it have a live PTO (i.e. a double clutch)?
