The throwout bearing in my 1715 is on it's last legs, squealing and grumbling on and off with use. I'm in a situation right now were I need to get some more use out of it before I split it. Is it possible to bore a hole in the case in an appropriate location and get some lube on that bearing to limp it along for another few weeks of easy use?

Maybe bore out the condenstate drain hole in the bottom a bit larger and snake a tube up to the bearing and spray some lube on it?

Never had the tractor split some I just guessing on the layout inside.

Thanks,
JohnnyB

With enough time and money you can do just about anything!

I sure wouldn't advise drilling a hole in the case to get two more weeks out of an all ready failed bearing. Even if you do drill in the correct place, there's no guarantee that you get that much more life out of it.

Split the tractor and replace the bearing, checking the clutch(es) while you're at it. Don't wait because if the bearing siezes you'll wear the fingers on the clutch and have to replace the pressure plate, too.

Doubt you could get any lube into the bearing races where it's needed. Use it lightly or change it out, as advised. Darn it.

If you tried to spray lube in the bearing it would also have a chance of getting on the clutch. I think it is a bad idea.
If you go ahead and order parts and have everything ready then it would only be a 1 day job to change it out.

Thanks.... yep, I can't chance contaminating the clutch. Never having had it open before I wasn't sure if the clutch was exposed enough to risk getting lube on it.

Tractor has a bucket and a backhoe on it .... after they are off it will seem small and easy to work on :)
