I have always used the regular type of anti-freeze in this tractor, but would like to change to the extended type (orange or red color as opposed tothe yellow color type) any pros or cons on doing this with this tractor? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I would not do it. I can not speak for the "red" coolant but the orange "dex-cool" can be a diaster. First off the green coolant must be completly drained and flushed, or a chemical reaction can take place that will gel the coolant. This is due to the green coolant being a silacate (sp?) base and the orange being acid base. The silicate base coolant coats all the parts and when the orange stuff is put in the acid eats the silicate coating and turns to jello. Second the orange coolant needs to be at a 50/50 mix anything stronger and the acid content is to high and can eat away at your cooling system. What I just mentioned is what I have read and run into in the automotive repair industry. The cooling systems are much more complex than compared to a tractor. I personally wouldn't do it.

There is or used to be an antifreeze called Prestone 5/150 Extended Life antifreeze/coolant. It's silicate and phosphate free...good for 5 years or 150,000 miles...safe to mix with any antifreeze, including DEX-COOL. Mixed at 50/50, freeze-up protection -34f...Boil-over protection +265f. Mixed 70% antifreeze, freeze-up protection -84f. Boil-over protection +276f.

Good luck

Doing a search for anitfreeze will bring up quite a few threads. The 2 above seemed to be the best answer to your question.
