i've been looking at tractors of every type since dec, 08 and i think i want to buy a ford 1720. the owner stated it's a 1980 with @ 800 hrs but i didn't think they made them then. i can pick it up for 7300. and its in great shape, the lady who is selling it stated that it was her fathers who's passed and she's settling the estate.can anyone tell me about this tractor. thanks.

Does it have a FEL? Any other equipment come with it. I had a 1710 and have had a 2120 for 22 years. They were both great tractors. What type of transmission does it have? I can't remember the 1710 types but I think my 1710 had a 12x12 trans with a F/R shuttle.
Overall if it is in good shape I would probably buy it.

$7300 sounds like a lot of money for a 30 year old tractor.

Have you seen this tractor in person? The hours seem awfully low for that model. Is the hour meter working? Check for your self to make shure every thing works as it should. If it is fwd, check that out verry good because it is verry expensive to repair. The price seems high unless you are getting a loader and other attachments.

The 20 series is one of the best and most durable that Ford/New Holland ever made. They do hold there value extremely well. I'm not sure what 1720's are going for but it is at least a 1987. My 2120 is an 87 and it still runs great starting on the coldest day in a second or 2 and also starts that way after sitting for months uncovered outside on my farm. It's my favorite tractor to use.

Right, I believe the '10 series Ford ended in 1986, the '20 series lasted well after NH bought Ford's tractors lineup, even kept the name Ford on some models.

The hour meter on the 1310 I had only had 3 digits...so it only went to 999.9 then back to brand new again, not sure about the '20 series but 800 hrs seem awful low but still possible I guess.

Real good little machines overall, and the price sounds fair with FEL and 4WD.

I've got a 1710, which is a 1984. Hours can be that low depending on who has used it. But for that price as mentioned it shoul dbe 4x4 with an FEL, and it's still a little high.

Actually, the 1720 and 1920 are two of the best and most durable compacts OF ANY BRAND ever made.

1720's were first built in 1987, give or take a year. There is a unit code on the serial number plate thatr can be decoded if you post the info.

Rick,

How different is 1700 in comparasion to 20 and 10 series other than 3 cylinder engine, live pto and syncromesh transmission?
