Ford 1720
I've got a Ford 1720 with a FEL and 12x4 standard transmission with 1600 hrs. It's everything I need but she showing some wear.... Everything still works but, I'm hearing a bit more valve clicking, an occasional whine in the hydraulic pump, brakes are getting lower, and a 3 pt hitch hiccup that comes and goes with a heavy load... my dilemma is should I take it to a good shop and say restore it... I don't have any idea what that would cost... my question is should I fix it, or sell it and buy a New one... I'm not able to do the work myself... any advise much appreciated....

Thanks, Bernie...

If my Ford/NH 1920 was showing the same symptoms, I would definitely make plans to repair it. The 1920 is also all the tractor I need, for now, and I have found a good tractor-man that can fix almost anything at a reasonable cost. 1600 'normal' working hours for your 1720 is not generally considered 'worn out'. Parts are readily available so I recommend you find an independent tractor-man, treat him kindly, and you could keep the 1720 for many more hours.

Thanks for the reply! Good to know that the hours aren't disqualifying for repair. Now, to find an independent tractor man. I think a few things may just need adjustment... the brakes and valves have never been touched.. the 3 point hitch will easily lift a 5 ft brush hog and hold it most of the time but other times I have play with the lever to stop it from jumping up and down... SOOOO I'm off to find a tractor man and I'll treat him kindly..... Thanks again!!! Bernie...

I would also second repair, a new version of what you own will be 16-20k new, if you can throw a grand or so into your tractor, still better than a tractor payment.

I have the same dilemma on my truck, I could keep throwing cheap Ford OEM parts on it from advance or sell it and buy a more expensive, updated truck but it always ends up being parts. IMG_7440.JPGIMG_7247.JPGIMG_6730.JPG

I deff work the old girl and replace parts as they go bad, it's paid off, parts are super cheap, readily available and it's simple to work on, so I will keep it around for awhile.

The only reason I would get rid of your Ford is if parts were a pain to get or way over priced.

If you buy another used machine your buying more problems, if you buy new, you will find more comfort but it won't have a quality feel, like they don't build them like they used to thought, HST on the other hand would deff be a reason to upgrade, HST is fantastic lol.
