175 lift cover adjustments without MFN -970 tool/gauge

Hello,
So with this tool pretty much impossible to find, what is a work-around? I've searched and searched but have yet to come across a common method used today. From pics that I've seen it looks like maybe it is an extension of the beveled section where the ram arm meets the rear of the lift cover. If that's the case it would be easy to make something work. Anybody know if this is the case or not? Ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Ed, I'm hoping to see some info from someone who has used these tools - otherwise we are all in trouble. I have never done any of these adjustments but I'd like to learn how to set up the hydraulic plate and links/levers correctly so I can when I need to, also to help others and to preserve this knowledge.
