Is 1750 hours on a 2000 TC45D out of the ordinary? Averages out to about 300 hours per year. If it has been well maintained, I don't see too much of a problem.

How many hours do you TC35/40/45 owners have on your tractors and what year are those tractors?

Neither straight hours, nor years alone are a good measure for tractor longevity. Well maintaind diesels ( and gassers to som extent ) can have a good servicable life of 30-40 years and 5000-10000 hours.

I consider 1000 hours to be broke in real good. 300 hrs per year? Not bad.. In many cases.. things like tranny oils are changed at 300 hour marks.. or yearly... so that looks promising.

A better feel for the tractor is just looking at it's condition.. look for evidence of damage and repairs... Good repairs are fine.. cobbled up repairs are not. Look for wear on steering components.. and leaks.. check that it drives good in all ranges at all speeds, starts good cold.. idles fine.. throttles up good without hesitating, and does not smoke heavily except on startup and under heavy throttle up. Check the rubber.. it's expensive these days. Look at condition of oil and water and check for mixing of either. If there is a mant log fromt he dealer or owner.. that isa plus.. as well as reciepts showing repairs or preventative maint / service. Check all gauges, instruments and controls for function.. especially chargeing system and any safety features

I average about 200 hr/yr on my 2001 TC45D. If that tractor is that old, it has most of the bugs worked out, but you sure need to look closely at the battery area, leaks from the block coolant drain petcock, and make sure the tractor temperature will come up to operating range.

StoneFox down in NM just announced a low-hour tractor for $18,000. Can you travel that far? It might be the best deal around.

Just for completeness...

I took a couple hour round trip drive today to look at this particular TC45D with Super Steer and 17LA FEL and 1750 hours on it.

Lets just say it didn't take long for me to hop back in my truck and head home! It was definitely one of those 40 footer units. You know, looks good from 40 feet away!

Closer inspection revealed: Tweaked ROPS (subtle, but definite, must have been on its side at some time!); Broken steering wheel tilt and telescope mechanism (no tilt lock(!), no telescope); tweaked 3rd rear SCV quick connects that rendered them unusable; cracked floor platform at both side steps (from previously mentioned roll over?); mismatched tread pattern/manufacturer rear tires (but same size, tractor had two front and left rear OEM Titan R1s); FEL had Kasco "Uni-Hitch" SSL QA, which is fine, but then it had a second SSL to New Holland pin on adapter plate to connect the original pin on bucket which was a bad thing since that put the bucket a good 8 to 10" forward of where it should have been (should have purchased a genuine SSL bucket or removed factory pin on brackets and welded on a flat SSL connector plate).

With all I could see with a visual inspection, I didn't even bother firing it up and taking a test drive.

But, hey, they "only" wanted $14,500 for the tractor... Seemed like a reasonable kind of price for a 6 year old model with 1750 hours on it, assuming it was in good to very good condition otherwise.

Bottom line? No thank you, I'll pass on this tractor!

If ya shop around you will find a deal . I purchased a 2000 tc40d fel ,bh, back blade & rake .last year with 670hrs at a bargain it took a lot of searching but there out there . I since put over 150hrs on it and I am unsure how I got along with out it for so long . I even started haying with it 7' heston haybine and a Jd baler . I don't think it would like a wagon attached on the hills but it is suprising what this tractor can do . Dave
