1759 Is Bigger

Looking at the specs, it seems that the 1759 is a slightly bigger and heavier tractor than the rest of the lineup. Even the 1758, which shares the 59 HP engine. Any Massey experts care to shed some light on this?

Never saw a 59 but I like the 58. TSO steered me that direction. I see the specs were better for capacity but thought the actual tractor was the same dimensions. There is a larger tire you can get on the 59 than the other models also

I believe the reason for it being slightly larger than all the other models is, as onceacop said is the larger tire option but also that the 1759 has inboard planataries instead of using bull gear reduction. I think it pushes the rear axle centerline back a little bit, if you're comparing the sizes based on the specs. If you put your eyeballs on them, the larger tires make more of an impression than the rear axle obviously.

The 1759 has a planetary rear end, a thing that apparently, is not deemed necessary for HST transmissions since John Deere is the only company offering a 60ish hp HST tractor with the planneray gear rear end (the 4066R).

Interestingly enough, I was just looking at parts diagrams for my 1652 and comparing them to the 1660. (Same difference you see with the 1754/58 vs 1759)

All engine parts, including injectors and pumps, appear identical when comparing my 1652 to the 1660. Meaning output is likely determined by fuel volume and nothing else. Otherwise, I believe the other posters here already pointed it out: bigger tires, and the different rear-end.

Yes, if you walk around the backside of each tractor, you will see a remarkable difference between the two in terms of rear-end ruggedness.
