Hi all! I have used this awesome forum for the last couple of years after purchasing my Yanmar 1610D. What great info!
Anyway, I'm now looking at a Cub 1782 with a 60" deck to mow my 2 acre yard and have some questions.

First of all, I have a lot of obstacles in my yard and wonder if anyone with this tractor can tell me about it's maneuverability in some semi-tight spots (around trees and stuff)???

Also, does anyone know if a mulching blade setup would work with the deck that is on it? (I am not sure of the deck model because I haven't actually purchased the tractor yet)

Lastly, any idea of value in the eastern PA area? The tractor is in fair condition and runs well but does need some minor work. It has about 750 hours on it. My friend who has it and I are both researching this to find a good selling price for it.

Thanks in advance for your time, Jake

uh oh! No responses? I hope all the 1782 owners are just busy and it's not because this is a limited model or lemon or something. If any Cub guru's here that can tell me anything at all about this model I would greatly appreciate the help! It seems like the parts are available for most of the older models from what I'm seeing.
Thanks again for any help.

Great machine. I believe one of the best tractors Cub Cadet ever produced. I owned one for several years, and installed a loader, 3-pt, front hydraulics, and rear PTO.....and used them all. Used the tractor more like a compact, and it just kept working. Bought it with 60 hours, sold it with under 500. (went to a Cub compact)
The power steering with the 60" deck I had was great for maneuverability. Very easy to move back and forward with the hand drive.
Not sure about the mulching blade setup, although I assume you can get them.
Value....depends on year, hours, condition and options. Fair condition 750 hours I'd say roughly 1800-2800. Good luck!

Thanks much for the insight. My bud and I were discussing a price range about half of your estimate, so I'm guessing I'll be getting my moneys worth! It also gives me the option to trade down if it winds up being too much tractor for the yard. At least it has to be better than my Yanny 1610D around the trees!!

Yan-man, good tractor! I have one since 1996 or so and put 1200 hours on it. No expenses other than routine maintenance items and a set of glow plugs ( I use it all winter to clear my driveway) as well in the good weather. I pull a Brinley 1 bottom plow, mow with the 54" deck (best deck they ever made IMHO) use a front blade and snowthrower.

The D-640 Kubota engine is a good, long life engine, I personally prefer the Yanmar 3 cylinders but that was not an option. 2 things to watch with these 1782's; #1 is keeping the radiator screen clean as these have a bad tendancy to overheat easily and that radiator is on the small side for this tractor. #2 is to keep checking the bolts that hold the hydro rearend in the frame, these are often found loose or missing on the later Cub garden tractors as this. Since these thread into the aluminum housing they can be damaged or broken easily if not tight. You should double check these prior to buying. Look around the head gasket for severe overheating as well (item #1) Those two concerns are about it! Wish they still made these, I would buy a new one.

Thanks Jimdiesel for the insight. I know all about overheating, my 1610 is tempermental with that as well!! This is all great stuff that I'm taking note of.
Thanks again!
