Gentlemen:

I could use a little purchasing advise. I have a 3015 which I am selling (house is built, don't need that much tractor anymore). I am real torn between the 1815 and 2415. There is a 300 lb weight difference between them and the 1815 FEL lifts 100 lbs less than the 2415 FEL. I need to landscape a front and rear yard and move some dirt around as it gets brought in and dumped. Is the 1815 up to spreading 125 yards of class III fill? If it is, I think I'd like to go with it 'cause it is less money. It also seems to me that with the 2415 you are buying more engine than you can really use given the weight and size of the tractor. Its the same engine as the 2615 with the same displacement, but detuned somehow by 2 horsepower less. I am told it will spin all four wheels on pavement. The extra power would certainly be useful with PTO intensive equipment (big mower, PTO generator,
rototiller, etc.) but is it really going to give me that much more dirt moving capability as between the 1815 and the 2415.

Any insight or advise is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jordan

See also my post on the PTO generator. You don't say how big the "big mower" is, nor where you live, what kind of terrain, etc. Both machines will move your dirt -- just not at the same speed. I guess my real question is how much and what do you "gain" by trading down. You obviously stated little "need" for the larger tractor, but will it not do what you do need now? I have a 6500 and a little old Allis (ex-Hinomoto) 5020 that will both run a 5' brush hog, but it takes a lot longer with the Allis if there is any heavy brush. I still use both, but if I had to get rid of one or the other, the Allis would go. It's not like you present tractor is all that huge ... unless I'm missing something.

I have sold 4 1815's all ready and everyone of my customers have been back and stated that they would have never thought that a little tractor would perform like that.

I am very happy with the 1815 I think that it is the BEST tractor in it's class for the $$$

Don't get me wrong -- both the 1815 and 2415 are good machines (I'm a big Mahindra fan). You most likely would be happy with either though the 1815 might be a stretch for that 7.5 Kw generator if it's going to be fully loaded. I just can't figure out what you gain by coming down from a 3015. Well, maybe a little garage space, and that may be important to you. You mention the dirt moving -- and if some additional time to do it is not a major factor, any of the three will be fine. You mention "big" mower and the pto generator and the later is near the edge for the 1815, but way OK with the 24 or the 30. Can't comment on the mower without knowing kind, size, how much land you mow, what type of terrain, etc.

BTW, where are you? I may have a friend who would be interested in the 3015 if you are anywhere near middle TN (KY, southern IN, southern IL, northern GA, northern AL).

Just a thought. The 2015 falls right in between. Is this model not worth considering or is it going away like the 3015? I was told in Dec when I got my 3215 that the 3015 was discontinued, but it still remains on the web site??

You should come drive both. Move some dirt, drag a box and then see what you think. The 1815 is amazing really, and it is small. Although going 12" narrower and not much more than that shorter than your 3015, it would be hard for me, if I were in your shoes, to justify the trade. I'd probably keep the 3015.

VistanTN:

Your points are well taken and I often ask myself why am I getting rid of the 3015? I guess what it comes down to, as much as anything, is I am really taken with the appearances of the little 1814 and 2415 and so I am sort of looking for whatever reason I can come up with to get one. I know. What a terrible reason to trade tractors!

I live in northeastern California. The ground here is pretty rocky and hard, but I am having some nice fill dirt hauled in. The reason I bought the 3015 in the first instance was because I had alot of bucket work to do and alot of dirt to move around the foundation of the house. I had to backfill a pretty large septic drain field and, inasmuch as it was my first tractor purchase, I wanted to make sure I had enough tractor.

Dave:

Thanks for the invitation to visit. I actually called a week or two ago and spoke with your wife. You were at lunch or selling a tractor or something. I should have called back. I'll give you a call on Monday.

Thanks,

Jordan
