I just traded up to a Bx1830 with 54 Mulching deck.
when started from a cold start it runs rough and belches alot of smoke for about 2 to 3 seconds then runs smooth. I have never experienced this with a diesel before, does it sound normal. should I be concerned. also I mentioned it to the dealer and they said it was normal but I wanted to make sure.
thanks

How long are you holding the key to turn on the preheater (glow plugs) for? I keep it turned on for the count of 5-10 and then turn the key in cold weather. If you are doing this then check to make sure the wire to the glow plug did not come loose. If it is really cold, 0F mine will do the same for the 1st few secs too. I installed a block heater and that took care of that problem. I see you are in Ga. so I do not think you need a block heater. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is a thread on where to find the wire to the glow plug.
