I would like some opinions on a 2007 BX 1850 with 73 hours for $6000 or a 2009 BX 1860 with 42 hours for $8200. The tractor will be used mostly for mowing (1 acre) with some garden work and aerating. I am concerned on the 1850 about the abrupt stop and plastic parts. I have a G1800 (tank) with 800 hours and no problems. I have moved and have hills to deal with and the
G1800 lacks traction. I have installed AG tires but thay tear up the yard.
Thanks

I have a BX2350 which is the slightly larger version of the 1850. I notice the abrut stop in reverse, but I didn't think of it as a problem until I read about it on this board. As far as the plastic goes, I've had a couple of problems, nothing major. The worse is the plastic cover under the stearing wheel. A black large piece. This has never fit very well with the front plastic fender, and one of the tabs is broken. Also one of the mesh grills on the side of the fenders is broken and coming loose. This looks easy to fix, I just haven't bothered yet. I'm not sure if this stuff is still plastic on the newer machines or not.

So far I've like mine. Do those prices include a mower and end loader? The difference in hours is almost nothing, and $2200 would go a long way to buying a end loader if you want one.

I am concerned about the abrupt stops and plastic parts on the 1850. Thanks for any advice.
1860 would be my choice. I see a little room for negotiation.

I have owned both, get the 1860.

The 1850 had the abrupt, shall we say, HST that many folks find tolerable, but others absolutely detested enough to trade the machine in.

The 1860 had a few improvements, but the biggest of which was the body metal (instead of plastic) and the improved HST.

I believe both of those prices are solid, good prices. The 1850 is always a bit harder to resell, because many folks understand the HST issue.

You'd enjoy either one.

I had a BX2350 and the abrupt stop bothered me enough to trade it for a BX2660 within a few months. I was thinking long term of how many years I'd have to put up with the "issue" and divided the number of years by the price difference. Your talking about roughly $2000 difference between the two machines. Divide 2000 by the number of days you'll keep the machine and see how much extra your paying per day to have a two year newer machine without the issue.
I missed my calculation since I traded the BX2660 off in about a year but to me it was still worth it. Back pain for me is a bad thing and is worth alot of money to not have it. The abrupt reverse stop was painful to me. If you can mow going forward and rarely back up then $2000 is alot of money
Some have indicated/stated/said that I just don't know how to drive a tractor. I have driven several Kubotas and could feather the pedal in reverse to make it tolerable as long as I could stay focused on the issue and do gentle pedal control but when mowing for hours the percentage of increased lack of concentration of feathering the pedal when reversing on my hillside property with trees and multiple other obstructions to work around I'd forget and then feel the pain coursing thru my back.:) Is one time of pain worth a few bucks or maybe ten times or even three times. My answer was.....no.:)
Now on the other side of the issue. My neighbor has a BX2350 and doesn't seem to notice the "issue".
