Ok, Does anyone have an idea where the vent for the front differntial on a 1910 Ford is located? I've looked all over.
I can tell it's plugged due to the fact that after driving around when you remove the fill plug you can hear the pressure release.
Thanks,
Folks

Boy good question!

I looked in my parts book and can't find one, and don't remember ever seeing one on my 1710. I wouldn't think it would be needed, even at 12mph how much foaming could occur?

These tractors are designed for rough useage and I wouldn't think any vent would work except a tube running upward, to a high-mount vent, otherwise one trip in the water and you've got to change the fluid.

I'll admit I've never heard anything pulling my little filler plug out (rule 32B, when operating in woods, buy an extra one of these in advance, and/or tie a piece of pink survey line to it, a branch WILL find it, as well as oil filler tube etc etc etc)

Happy New Year to all you Tractorites!

I'm not aware of a vent on my 1710 either. There are some seals that aren't in the oil bath. Perhaps any pressure that develops bleeds off around the seals.

Folks, I had a 1910 for about 7 years and I never found a vent on front end. But it did build up presure. I would check with the dealer and get his spin.

DEALERS IN MY AREA AREN'T KNOWLEDGEABLE ON COMPACT'S.
IT'S LIKE I'M ASKING MY QUESTIONS IN FRENCH OR SOMETHING.
BUT, IF IT DOESN'T HAVE A VENT,MY NEXT LONG WEEKEND,
IT WILL HAVE.

Again, they work fine without one. (or are venting in a way none of us can understand/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Of course if you really don't ever plan on running it in deep water, I'd suggest checking with a transmission parts supplier, or visit a junkyard with a lot of trans cores, I've seen a lot that look like they might fit in the filler hole, maybe aplastic one you tap in that is a tight fit. You can keep your old plug for it's dipstick function. My 1710 has never made a hissing sound, you'd think if it was severe it would blow the rubber dipstick right out.

There's usually are a reason why things are built the way they are. Of course that doesn't apply to the Ford van I had...NO DRAIN PLUG IN DIFF! Sucking it out with a pump was complete nonsense! All of us have probably had those moments when we would have loved to have the designer, engineer or accountant that made something the way it was, in a chair so we could dump used motor oil over their head until they confess to the idiocy of their existance!
