1950 8n transmission or clutch promlems

Hi everyone, I am new here and hope that I can get some help. I have had this 8n for about 5 years and it has run great with no problems. I was using it for about an hour and when i went to stop I had put it in neutral and it continued to go. I moved it a little bit after that and it came to a complete stop. There was no pops or breaks that i could hear. I have been told that it may be in two gears at once. I took the shifter cover off and it appears to be stuck in 3rd gear now. I can not get the upper rod to slide back into neutral. I have now jacked up the back and was told to rotate the tires backwords. When i do that they go in opposite directions. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Sorry to hear i read your post again . I does sound like a shifting fork .

if the tranny is locked, the diffy will make the wheels spin opposite.. that's normal.

so.. sounds like you shifted out of 3rd gear and into neutral and it stayed in 3rd? if it's only in that gear, then just get a clean pry bar and manually shift it to neutral. if it really is in 2 gears at once, then starting it with the clutch depressed and then letting the clutch out should stall the engine.. if it don't stall.. it ain't in 2 gears.

could hav e been bad detents, shifter fork, shifter pattern, or a worn down shifter nub that let this happen.

post back more detials.

ps.. if it is in 2 gears.. I'd rotate the engine over backwards a bit as that is what was pressing the gears together.. then try to pry it out of gear.. hopefully with all teeth intact.
