I am restoring this 70 JD. I need the hydraulic lever, Headlight lens and a couple of the front wheel lug bolts (original bolts with the impression in the face of the head, will take more). Also, wanting to replace the thermostat, John Deere says $208. Is there other thermostats that work for this model tractor? I can find them for the diesel for less that $20 but isn't what is called for. Any help is appreciated
Thanks, Wayne

Steiner Tractor might have the parts you need.

Good luck.

If you can get ahold of a copy of Green Magazine , there are lots of parts and sources for them . Also try YesterdaysTractors.com .

Steiners tech says they have one that will work. Thanks for the responses.

Except for tin just finished a complete resto of a 1955 Model 70. The thermostat price shocked me as well so got the thinking cap on. The upper water pipe casting where it originally sits, got an automotive style thermostat lay it in against the casting in a bed of silicon (it fit perfectly) force the upper water pipe down against it, problem solved.
A lot of my used parts came from Millers Tractors, new parts, spread the business around.
Have you got the list of parts you need made up yet or making the list as you go as did I.

Have sized that up and plan to go with it. Good idea. Waiting for radiator to be tested and repaired. Plan to use 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipe for upper water pipe. I bought a rack and pinion for rear wheel, hydraulic lever, and cylinder hanger off ebay, got a lot of parts from Steiners, some from John Deere. Didn't need any major mechanical work as overhaul and clutch rebuild happened a few hundred hours back. I restored a couple for hire last year, this is the third this year and two more waiting in line. I tried to insert images but messed it up. Thanks a bunch for your help.
Would like to find that lock nut for JD 45 loader (following post here), any ideas.

Had a 45 loader up until this spring, may have some spare parts. The lock nut your asking about the one that bolts to the frame and supports the loader braces?

I say its about the size of a coffee cup notched to leave three pillars, 3/4 inch fine thread bolt size. It uses two to bolt braces to tractor frame and two at the other end of the braces where they attach to the axle pillars. Thanks
