Hope one of you guys can help me; I'm all out of ideas and my brain hurts. I have a 1953 Farmall Cub 6V positive ground ignition system. Due to the advanced state of neglect I have had to replace worn and in some cases missing altogether wiring for the starting/charging systems. There was an existing 12V alternator installed ( integral regulator) in the mix. When I connect the battery the entire tractor is energized to 6V+ without any wire connexion from the alternator. I cannot get the system to charge- the alternator feed wire shorts out at the ammeter so I can make no charge circuit at all. I replaced the alternator. The engine starts and runs fine but that's about it. If I try to hokk up wires at the ammeter/ ignition switches I burn out the ballast resistor. Can you help? Thanks.- woosh53
