Came across this gem from a friend of mine. She runs but has been sitting for years. And was probably abused and not taken care of by the previous owner. Just tried loading a picture from my phone. And unfortunately shes in a snow drift. This week end they are calling for 45 degrees and im going to dig her out.
There is a main line from the front of the tractor to rear its about 1.5 inches and I believe it goes from the pump to the backhoe attachment. Is that a low psi line? My buddys telling me to cut it and splice it with a piece of pipe and two hose clamps. I dont agree with this but if its mot high psi it should work for a temp fix. Also the trans was low on fluid and we hand noticed that there was small ice chunks in the trans. Not good I know! I had told another friend thats a old timer and he said dont waste the time or money if there is ice in the trans it means the hydro pump Is shoot. But yet it still lifts the front end loader

Why you would assume the previous owner has ABUSED the machine is just a stereotype. Drop it!

With that, if the rig has sat some years, condensation may have water at all the low places in the sumps. Engine, transmission and hydraulic.

DON"T try to turn those assemblies while things are frozen.

"It ain't dead until it's warm and dead", but tring to kick it to life when frozen solid will certainly kill it!

Roger that! The reason I said it was abused was cause I know where it sat and what was done and not done in terms of maintenance

You are correct on the hydraulic line. Proper lines with proper fittings or you put yourself at risk of injury.

Since it has a loader, I'd assume that it has a front pump. The flow rate of the 3 pt hitch hydraulic pump is only about 2.5 gpm. if there was back hoe on it them there will be at least two lines running from the front pump to the hoe connection and the smaller one is generally the high pressure, the larger is the return line. Why do you want to cut any of the lines?

If you turn off the pto, you won't turn the internal pump. There is a lever on the left hand side about where you heel would be that turns the pto on and off. If there is no more ice in the transhydraulic fluid it won't make any difference if you run it just to get it home or to just see if the 3 point comes up. Since you know it's full of water you'll need to chage that ASAP IF the internal pump works. Other wise you'll need to rebuild the pump or find a good used one. rebuild kits are like $250-350. Good pumps are around the same price.

Thanks Jerry! Thats some good information right there! There is a backhoe on it. and reason for cutting the line and splicing it back together is because it leaks, I guess it would be the larger return line. The tractor is good where it sits i dont have to move it right now. I wanted to start working on it to have it ready for spring.
