Tractor
1959 Casa 310B
Hello.

I just came across a 1958-59 Case 310B. It does not currently have the backhoe attached however, it did at one time. The tractor looks rough yet starts and runs perfectly. And the front end loader works well. The problem I have is that the 3 point does not work properly. When I say not properly. I mean for the most part, not at all. With the tractor running normally. It will not raise or even attempt to. I have notice, when I am driving the tractor from on lot to the other (using high rang in 3rd and 4th gear). The arms will raise up during the trip. Once they come up. I am not able to get them to go back down. The only way I have found they will go back down. If I shut the tractor down, they will seep down over time. I was going to go into the internal hydraulic pump to see if I can see anything. Before doing that, I would like to see if anyone has any ideas.

Thank you

I am not familiar with that tractor but if you could answer a couple of system questions it might help guide us to a solution.
1) how many hoses or lines are connected to the loader control valve?
2) where is the pump located and can you follow the pressure line from the pump to what it connects to?
3) are there any remotes or quick disconnects on the rear of the tractor?

Is there a latching power beyond valve which fed the backhoe, and is still positioned to feed the backhoe? Everything I‘ve seen, having the oil running to the backhoe, prevents it from feeding the 3-point.

From what I can see, no. There is nothing there that would fee the backhoe. The backhoe is not on it and I don't know that it ever was.

I have one hose going from the valve to the 3 point.
From what I see in the manual. The pump is located internally under the valve. Yes, I can follow the line and have disconnected it where it feeds the 3 point and get absolutely nothing coming through line when operating the 3 point.
No remotes or quick disconnects at all on the tractor.

Have you checked the fluid level..?? IIRC, dipstick is on the left side under the fuel tank. There's a good chance the seal is out at the front of the reservoir. The driveshaft passes through it, and the only way to replace it is to split the tractor. You can remove the bell housing inspection cover and look inside. If there is a lot of oil in there where it's been slung around, and/or literally pours out like it did on my old 310B, you've found part of the problem.
