My 1966 Ford 5000, once I start up hill, the 3 point hitch will now raise until I get to level ground. I checked my fluid, and replaced the Hydraulic pump under the brakes area, years ago. Put on new filters too. Now it works fine as long as I am on level ground, but once i start up hill, it is starts to dig in, I am out of luck. Have to back down till is raises. Any ideas on what my problem is???

Sounds like the fluid pickup isn’t at the bottom of the fluid container. I don’t think it was designed that way so my assumption is it broke off.

hmmm, ok, I did not think of that, since i did not do the hydroalic pump replace ment. i watched him do it, but still unsure. Ok, thanks for answering me. I am totally at a lose, because I can find anyone willing to even work on it in Foley, Mo, near Troy MO. :In fact, I want to have it completely restored, but finding someone with in 300 mile of me to do that is impossible. I love this tractor, best one I ever had even though i got totally screwed over when i bought it. they said it was a 1976 when I bought it, but its a 1966, just alittle bit different in a hundred different upgrades. But one has to live with what one gets sometimes. I have a 1955 Ford 800 to, nobody in my area will thoouch it. Pretty unbelieveable if you like old tractors.

I was assumeing you meant in the hydraolic pump area, on the right side of the tractor as your sitting on it, under the brake pedel just about even with the seat area.

Well i don't think so, but I would have to look into that one a lot more, Thats a very simple thing to be wrong. The top link came with the tractor. so I thought it was the correct lenght. I have purchased a couple new ones since then, and they were supposed to be for this model tractor, for a 8 foot grader blade, which is all i do with my tractor on a gravel road. It works fine in landscapeing for family and friends, but you don't have that much of a incline in the jobs i have done for family and friends. At no charge I might add. You know how that is, I am sure.

I had to take off the front end loader, not being able to find anyone who would work on it. I really thought, a lot of people worked on old tractors. Apparently, I was wrong. but I can not afford new tractor just to fart around on it for kicks, with no pay. LOL

I am thinking of just getting a hydrolic top link, will cost a lot, but should solve my problem if I can't find any other answer to this problem. Because then I have to add extra single or double spool hydraulic etc etc, even the lines to that are not cheap as a cold beer. But one has to do what one has to do.

Are the lift arms raising properly? If yes it does kind of sound like possible top link issue or are the lift arms adjusted to max length. I do not remember if the 5000 had height/ length adjustment on both arms or just the one.

There is also an inspection- access cover on the side of the transmission below the brake pedals this allows access to the pump and pickup screen without splitting the tractor or pulling lift cover off the top.
