Apologies upfront because I’m a bit of a tractor idiot, so I may not be using the right terminology here.

I have a 1967 JD 1020 (gas). Never had much of a problem with it until a few days ago. It’s developed a bad fluid leak while running. Not a drip, but pretty much a good stream. It’s coming from an area just in front of where I sit, up above the rear of the oil pan.

Granted, I know that’s a lame explanation, but would anyone have any idea? Pretty sure it’s engine oil. Is there a seal in the general area that’s gone bad? I’m assuming it’ll have to be split in order to fix, so what would be a ballpark idea of cost?

Appreciate any insights anyone may have, and thanks.

Can you post some pics of where this leak appears?

And a pic of the amount that leaks into a pan after like 5 minutes of run time?

And a check of engine oil on dipstick before and after?

I’d like to, but I’m out of town. May take a day or two.

But I topped off the oil before I last used it; my son noticed the leak after I had been using it for around a 1/2 hour, and the oil level barely registered on the dipstick. So whatever the problem is it just happened.

Will look forward to your reply.

Sometimes a small amount of oil on the ground can look like a lot. So measuring oil loss will help decipher the problem.
The amount used to refill the engine oil will help.
Knowing if engine oil or hyd transmission oil will help too.

We know it is not a hydrostatic tranny.
