A family friend has their 1967 Mustang for sale. They bought it new for Grandpa to drive - seriously... He put 18000 miles on it up until he died in 1977. It now has 28000 miles on it. The owner just turned 81.
It is a 289 automatic with PS. It's always been garaged and never driven in rain or snow. It looks showroom inside and out. The family takes excellent care of the Lincolns and Ford pick ups.
My wife & I have always liked the old Mustangs, but have not been searching for one. We see this as one of those "once a lifetime" situations due to us really knowing the history of this car and may buy it. Thy're asking $13000, but I think that I could buy it for $10000 or a little less. Is it a decent deal? What should one look for on a car like this? I don't know much about Mustangs.

I think the question is... is it worth that much to you? If it is, and you have the means, and you want it, get it.

Have you tried search the web for antique car pricing guides? That might be a good start. Also, you might want to have it checked by a machanic that you trust to see if there are any obvious problems with it. Sounds like a nice car. Hope it works out for you. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let me put it this way, If I lived a little closer, I would have bought it by now. Especially with the 289. Best engine Ford ever made.

In three words.....jump on it!

I have been in the Mustang hobby for about 20 years now, and it is not common to come across a low milage premo example. Any more dirt on the car? Coupe, fastback, standerd, delux intierior, strange options?

I have been restoring my wifes 70 Mustang for the last 5 or so years. Kind of at a standstill with the new house, and baby, but hope to get moving on it this winter. BTW, I have almost the 10 grand you are looking to spend on your car, in mine, and it is still a stripped shell, and a BIG pile of parts. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It is a factory maroon standard coupe and has... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
automatic on the floor, power steering, turn signal indicators in louvers in the hood facing the driver that may be a special option, black vinyl interior, low back bucket seats and lots of chrome inside, interior sideview mirror controls in the doors, and wire spoked wheel covers. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
It has a standard clear, clean & ford blue 289 2 barrel (probably 225 horse) with stock factory single exhaust. He started it right up and it runs very smooth with the sound of those 60's V8's. He has stored it the last 25 years in barn on concrete floor with rubber stall pads under the car while driving it once in a while in the spring, summer or fall. He has replaced the master cylinder, 5 batteries, belts, hoses and tires.
That is most of what I know for now.
I offered him $10000 cash today -> he's sticking at his $13000. I haven't looked at the original invoice or got the VIN# yet.

I've got a partially restored 67 convertable 289 auto all original equipment. It has 69k on it and was a norhterner. Rebuilt the carb last year, very easy as the engine compartment has so much room you could crawl in there and take a nap.

It's white with black interior, it's really a head turner. And even with the little 2b carb has a nice throaty sound to it when you jump on the pedal.

I want to upgrade it to disk brakes and replace a few quarter panels. Chrome bumpers are pitted but original; Just hasn't been high on the priority list. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The original invoice on that car was less than $3000, probably around $2800. I bought a new 1968 Mustang GT convertible, 302 4bbl, 4spd, for $3200. I wish I still had it.

My first car, in 1976, was a 1969 Mach-I. I bought it for $1,500 and played with it for about 4 years. Got married and sold it

for more of a "family" car (for $3,000!). I have a deal with my wife: If I can find another '69 Mach-I that we can afford (not $30k, which they are going for now) and I can restore, its mine!

Did it have the Boss 302 motor? If it did somebody just got the deal of a lifetime.
