1972 ford 4000

i was working on the road and was in 7th gear and it started to load up on me downshifted to 6th gear and then it made a ping noise quit moving..engine runs fine however the transmission, pto and 3 point don't work. stuck in park...any ideas?

I am sorry, 4x2 is a manual with clutch and 2 stick shifts.

SOS is Hydromatic 10 speed

I have never owned or worked on one but i have heard about some.

If i understand it correctly there are 2 things that may have broken.

The input shaft and there is a mod to correct and improve that.
I saw a article on this and looked great.

The other is the output shaft to rear end, which is a couple of thing that may have broken or just come apart?
This can be unhooked so tractor can roll free.

Do searches here and other tractor forums on sos problems.
Pull out your manual and look for access panels and associated connections.

In the next day or so i am sure there are others who know more will chime in.

3PT works because the hydraulic pump is driven by a gear at the rear of the engine's camshaft.
PTO and transmission are disabled because the torque limiting disc or input shaft has problems. A front split (at the bellhousing) is in order.
