I am looking at buying a 1974 830 3 cyl diesel. Anyone have experience with these? Anything to look for?
I have a 1975 1530, same engine basically, just slightly larger cid. They're darn near bullet proof, mine is pretty smooth, a cousin has the same tractor and it has a slight knock, has had it since he bought it new 32 years ago. It produces a lot of power for the cid. I can't say anything bad about them. Around my area, 820/830's sell for about $8000-8500, new price was around $6500-7000. Check the steering for play when turning the wheel, it has bearings in the front steering assembly that often get neglected during routine maintenance. the bearings are cheap (around $20), but you have to drop the front end off the tractor to change them. It has wet disk brakes, you should be able to slide the front of the tractor when moving by depressing the brake pedals indepently. Can't really think of anything else.Villengineer said:I am looking at buying a 1974 830 3 cyl diesel. Anyone have experience with these? Anything to look for?
