Help! We have a 1975 Ford 4000 with a front end loader on it. My dad put the FEL on it when he got the tractor in '75 or '76. The loader was yellow and has been painted (years ago) Ford blue. The FEL was off of the tractor for 10-15 years. We put it back on this year. Now one of the cylinders in the front is leaking and needs repacking. The New Holland dealer said he needed numbers off the loader in order to repack it. We can't find any numbers anywhere. My dad would have known but he passed away in January. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Find a local hydraulic shop......routine cyls for them....

If you only want the packing kits, make sure you tear them down completely and bring in all parts in a box...

Like I said routine......

Well, I've looked at pictures of a Ford 730 loader and ours looks different.
Our "local" hydraulic shop is and 1 1/2 hours away. But it looks like that's what we'll have to do. Our local New Holland dealer isn't that helpful. That's where the tractor came from, we were hoping for more help from them. (same owner, 30 years later)

I'll try to get a picture loaded tomorrow and maybe that will help.

Thanks for the replies so far.

just take it to the shop.. actually.. take the PAIR to the shop. if one is old enough to leak, the other one is right behind it. always repack in pairs.

also.. the new packed one will put more pressure on the weaker one, likely making it leak immediatly when lifting a load.

I took in the loader cyl from my ford 711 to the local shop.. he did it while i waited.. all normal parts and v packing.. 80$ took less than 30 minutes.. and he didn't rush...

in many cases you need a special spanner wrench for the gland nut, and / or a 2 ton non moveable work table with a cyl vise or chain rig to bust them caps loose on some of them... easier to pay the pro to do it, then dink around with a 4' pipe wrench, pipe, and a ill fitting rig chewing up your cyl and nut trying to take it apart. have seen em ruined that way.

I second Soundguys "do them in pairs" suggestion. I went through that on an old Koyker loader. Koyker is also a yellow loader made in SD. Don't know if they were sold in your area or not.

hoses for them cyls is the same way. if one blows from age, and not a 'damage' situation.. do both, and save the other'n for a spare for weekends and holidays.

costs a lil more at the time.. but in the end might be a wash if you pop one at a bad time.

Thank you for all your help.

I finally found out that it is a Freeman 3000 FEL. Freeman was bought by Bush Hog.

Thank you again.
