International 3500A
As a rookie, I just broke my first hydraulic hose, and it is somewhat buried behind a couple other hoses. ALL of them are original to my 1975 International 3500A and they won't come off. I am soaking them with PB Blaster but it is not the blaster of old by far. Any other advice to break these guys loose? Apparently, Superman was assembling backhoes in the mid70s before the movie came out. Thanks!

James

If pipe thread they can be tight. Possibly some heat but be very careful so you don稚 start a fire or damage any seals. I use an electric heat gun Vs open flame.

Good luck

One thing I have done at times is to just cut the hose off and slid a box end wrench down and on to the fitting, and if cut short enough a deep impact socket and impact wrench.

How do you plan to tighten the new hose?
Can you get a wrench in there to get enough tightening force?

I did get a wrench in there as the broken hose was different than originally suspected. To replace the inboard hoses I anticipate removing the outboard ones first. The new hose threaded all the way down to hand tight and only took about 1/4+ turn to fully tighten. This weekend I will recheck the hose connection then test under load - I only ran it and moved the loader assembly a little bit.

You might try using a long cold chisel to tighten those nearly impossible to access nuts.
I replaced all my hoe hoses, and used the cold chisel method.
Just put the chisel blade against the corner of a nut and give the chisel an easy tap with a hammer. Keep doing this as the nut moves toward tight.
This method will leave small chisel marks in each nut, but it does work to get the nuts tight.
No leaks!

That trick also works in the "off" direction.
