1979 Massey Fergusson - Lost key - help please!

Hi there..I am new here but I am sure we will be buying more farm equipment..we just bought 110 acres last year..acquired the MF, and a huge log splitter..anyways..we bought the MF which came with a "home made" key..the guy we bought it from just kept making new ones when he would lose his..well..I am being blamed for misplacing ours..since there is no hole for a fob my husband kept the key on top of a tea container..well it is probably in one of his pockets somewhere as he has done the same thing with the lawn tractor key..luckily..I think the key for our gun safe fit the lawn tractor..anyone have any ideas for a temporary key? Nice day out here and my husband wants to move some of the debris leftover from clearing the acreage? Please help?????

I wish I had a picture of the old key..very simple..I just thought someone out there may have experienced this..was just a piece of tin shaped kinda like an hourglass...would a club key work? Gun safe key? The guy we bought it from was continuously making new ones..I wish I had saved his emails..nothing but bad luck with this MF..last year someone came on the property when we were not living here yet and they drained all the oil from the engine..6500 dollars later....

Are you talking about a Gun Club key? So the previous owner was constantly making new keys? Someone stole your tractor oil, $6500 worth I've not read here anyone starting thier tractor with a a Gun Safe key. I've never seen a hourglass key either. Sorry. Still trying to figure out the $6500 oil. Does your tractor not have a working oil pressure gauge? I check my oil each time before I start it up. As for the key. Is this a diesel tractor? Just buy a new ignition switch which will come with two or three keys. Easy enought to swap the wires to a new switch. If we knew more about your tractor. As in type. example. Welcome to TBN, Try going to a Massey dealer for a key. Not everyone here is as helpful as the Kids so stick in there.

Go to a tractor supply or hardware store and look at the lawn and garden tractor/lawn mowers keys, often almost anything will work in these old switches.

It is to late for you but for future referance , on a 100 or 200 series eg135/178/240/290 the dip stick will fit the ignition.
Replacement keys are avalible from the dealer.
