Loud noise & vibration when clutch is out, quiet with clutch in.

Rear hydraulics work fine, starts and runs fine.

Will not move in any gear or any direction, 2wd or 4wd.

Hydraulic fluid checks normal on flat ground.

Rear PTO not working at all in either low or high range.

Any chance it's something simpler than a throwout bearing?

How to diagnose?

I have an original shop manual that says the first thing to do is check if the input shaft turns, how would I do that?

Thanks,

Sounds like the splines are torn out of the clutch disc too me.

How to go about verifying that? Hoping for something less than a drastic teardown...

These 3 things verify it for me. You can crawl underneath it with a flashlight and look up inside the clutch housing to verify that the input shaft is not turning. I have done enough of these to be pretty convinced of my diagnosis.

Under what conditions do I check for the turning shaft. Engine running is obvious, but should it be turning even with the tractor in gear?

The input shaft should be turning any time the engine is running and the cluth pedal is released. The noise goes away when you depress the clutch pedal because the engine is no longer trying to turn the shaft, as soon as you release the clutch the noise you hear is the input shaft grinding inside the clutch disc hub because there are no splines left to turn the shaft. I wish I could give you a number of how many times I've made this repair over the 23 years I have worked on these tractors, but the best I can do, is just say, I have seen this many, many times. Unfortunately, you will need to split the tractor to make this repair. There is no magic access panel or any other way to do it.

Okay, I've crawled under the tractor after starting the engine, I can see a long shaft between the engine and tranny that is rotating. At the tranny end of the shaft are splines that look like there going into some kind of splined opening that has a really short shaft coming out of the other side. This is where the first shaft is turning just fine but the short (maybe 1-2") shaft is barely moving and freely making metal chips rain down like dust. It's hard to say whether the male or female splines are ruined, probably safe to say both, but further back is where the tranny input shaft is I guess and it seems to be unaffected from what I can see visually the problem area is a few inches forward from the tranny proper. Sound right? I have gone thru and thru the shop manual and can't find a diagram or picture of what I'm seeing so I can't properly describe what I'm seeing by the proper Kubota terminology. I hope this makes some kind of sense. I can try taking a digital pic, and annotating it, but I'm not sure how to attach a file using this forum.

Is it possible that I have a different problem since I can see where the issue is, and I can't see anything that vaguely resembles any sort of clutch assy or component?

Thanks,

Kris...

Sounds like you took out the splines on the opposite end of the input shaft from the clutch. Still no easy way to fix, will have to split between transmission and clutch housing instead of engine and clutch housing.

I have a B7100 parts book that shows several diagrams of various components. PM me your e-mail. They have very small limits here for attachmants.
