Symptoms and History.

Tractor has two sets of SCV's on the right side with two operating levers. Recently the one that operates the bucket would travel well past it's stop point. As if the E-clip came off in the lever assembly and not allowing it to automatically return to "hydraulic-neutral". So you needed to manually return it to neutral and find the middle. This was about 3-4 hours ago...now with it getting colder out...there is a shudder and slow hydraulics for both raising and operating the bucket. Fluid was about a gallon low and was corrected. No change. Tractor has the round filter than hasn't been replaced. Could the E-clip be floating around in there causing my problems? Filter clogged? Air in lines? Snow isn't sticking so it isn't too cold. 3point works as normal. Loader operated fine prior to this. I concider myself fairly mechanical, but I am new to hydraulics. Any help and comments would be great. Tractor is an 1985 with 1200 hours MFWD. Thank you.

The filter is on the suction side of the pump and if clogged, blocked or leaking, it will cause a shudder. My 770 has the same problem occasionally. I've replaced the filter and need to dump the fluid again and check the screen. On the 770 and 790, there is an internal pickup screen to clean as well. I'm not sure about your 1050, but your manual should tell you.

If the shudder gets worse as it warms up, it could be a pump problem. If the shudder disappears, its probably a suction blockage, slowing the cold oil and starving the pump.

After reading your reply I went ahead and went through the manual and followed the instructions. Drain the fluid from the front and the rear, clean the screen with solvent and blow dry with the air compressor...although it didn't seem too bad...but there were shavings and some nasty stuff stuck in there, and replace the filter on the other side. After putting the oil back in I was hesitant yet excited to find out that it was a complete success! You probably heard me saying thank you today. Again thanks for your help!

The return mechanism is in the cap on the other side of the valve from the lever. Take it off and see what broke.
