Tractor
1988 Ford 1710, 4x4, FEL
I am considering the purchase of a 1989 Ford 1720 4x4, FEL, live PTO, ~1,400 hrs. It's a decent little tractor. It starts easily and is in decent condition considering the age. I've talked price with the seller. I offered $10,500 cash and the lowest he is willing to go is $11k. Based on what i've seem, it seems a little high. The tractor is located in Wisconsin. What do you guys think? I'm new to this, so looking for any advice people are willing to give.

Looks like the high side to me as well. But without any details to the condition it is really to be sure. Just my .02 worth

appearance wise, it's got a little rust on it... nothing that can't be cleaned up. No big dents or rust holes. The tires are ag and look to have a good amount of life left in them. I would like to do this deal with the seller because it seems like a decent tractor, but i want to pay a fair price. i'm in no big hurry to buy.

I own a 99 1720 with a front end loader I added 3 years ago...
My unit has 800 hours and is clean...
IMHO 10K is a fair price...
That would be retail...
Trade in most dealers would offer 7K-8K...
Those tractors go anywhere from 5K to 7K without loader retail...
You made a good offer...
If you have the time wait him out...
They don't come up for sale often...
Very reliable units...

I'd keep shopping. I sold my "97" 1715 with loader for $9500, It had 600hrs. For a few more $$$$ you can get a new machine. Look at an LSXJ2025, you should be able to get one under $14k with a warranty.
Edit Here's one:
LS XJ2025 tractor loader, 4wd

Hello City Farmer. I see you are in Chesterfield. Are you familiar with Van Paemel Equipment?

The LS is a nice machine but is smaller and has less capacity than a 1720...
You would need to compare it to a G series for the size difference...

Thanks. I used this tractor as an example when i spoke to the dealer. That's why i thought $10,500 would get it done.
