Price Check 1989 JD 955

I am looking at buying a 1989 JD955. 270 hrs. Turf tires, spare set Ag tires for back. Wt box, good front loader bucket, backhoe with 2 buckets, sickle bar, Ford rear mount snow thrower. Owner wants $16,000.00. Is this a fair price? Unit is real clean, was stored indoors. So are all the attachments.

really need more info. Where it wil be used, is it 4 wheel drive or 2. First thought would be yes, if it is 4 wheel drive and in that shape I would go for it. If it is 2 wheel drive it may be depending on where and how you will use it. Check tractorhouse for camparison.

All 955 are 4WD. It was the only model of all the 55 and 70 series to come standard that way. You can also see by the picture of the front axle end it is 4WD.

It is a 4WD model. It will be used for residential on 20 acres. Cutting the field area, plating trees, moving dirt and landscaping. Not commercial use.

Have you check different dealers see what 16K can purchase..0% offers.

Those 955's are really nice tractors, but I'd say he's about $3K too high.
Definitely got power though...it's engine produces about 35 gross HP. I think the PTO HP is 28-30, IIRC.
But...if you like that machine, have $14K cash in your pocket and offer him $13K.

BTW, I have read it's getting a bit tougher to get 855 parts, so 955 parts may be harder to find too.

EDITED: I missed the backhoe...so, $16K isn't bad at all....

Twenty plus years old and 16k ? I would invest the 16 plus a few more on a machine less than five years old and buy some used attachments. Twenty odd years of cold starts and who knows abuse could be the road to future problems. I like new.. but slightly used is ok. It's your nickel.
