1989 Toyota Corolla Starter Replacement

Starter finally starting to fail (can tap it lightly and it will still work) but needs to be rebuild before it completely fails. Can barely even see it. Can't figure out if it needs to be removed from the bottom or top? 1989 Corolla SR5 Sport Coupe. Any suggestions? Will have to move a tractor out of the garage to open a bay.

I hope you can find a good local shop to rebuild it after you get it off. I don't trust any companies remanufactured starters any more. Here I will only use a small local rebuild shop that has always done me right. The guy has been doing it so long he remembers doing model T and A stuff.

Check your cables and make sure the ends are clean and shiny before you pull the starter off ok. Bad contact on the starter will give those symptoms sometimes.

Pulled the ford tractor into the yard... opens a garage bay... local folks who work on tractors and mowers at the golf course said they would fix it for $40.00 plus I pay for the parts... sounds like a good deal to me! They will even bring me the ramps!

Leadership... Is getting what you want done and someone wants to do it for you and they want to do it!

I believe one bolt is done from the top and the other is done from the bottom, along with the two wires being done from the bottom. Remember to disconnect the battery first. Drop out from underneath. No biggie, about an hour once you do a couple.
