Traction 1990 Ford 1920

I have subject unit & owned since new & have issues with 4wd. It has 3000 hrs. Great shape and has been an excellent asset. Lots of work done.
Last winter it started clicking when reversing in 4wd. I gingerly got it through winter as it was needed to feed round bales.
Just finished first crop hay (yes. barely through the rain) so now is the best planned time to tackle.
That said. It is not in the driveshaft front or rear ‘couplings’. It does not appear to be in the front end. The click feels like under the seat. My local dealer in recent discussion doesn’t seem to know and advised to remove transmission covers etc/split for further examination...
Seems like a gear or bearing must be stripped or worn.
Any one with similar issues and advice? Is it likely a split is required or possibly repair through trans cover?

"I took the drive shaft off and determined that the noise was coming from the 4wd mission case. I drained the trans and pulled the case the smaller top gear had significant damage to a tooth. The bump on the expansion joint must have sloshed a piece of metal down into the 4wd case and cracked the gear. I dont know where the piece of metal came from but I am optimistic that it is not a sign of a larger problem. Going to order new gears for the mission case and get the tractor back to work. I love this tractor I am always amazed at the amount of work it does."

The drop box and 4WD shift cover can be removed for inspection purposes before more extensive exploratory surgery is performed.

Thought I'd follow up on the repair for future record.
The unit was split; 4x gears were shot.
Replaced the following:
47936798 engage housing >$500.
SBA322371090 gear $85.
SBA322990841 gasket $10.
SBA052109076 O-ring $3.
SBA398210460 Spring $3.
SBA322341510 Gear $140
SBA399030070 2 Seals $80
Clutch Inspected and found in good order.
24 HRS labor. I took to the dealer as I have no 'spare' time.
Great Small Utility Tractor. Other than tires and a replacement FEL bucket, above is really the only work done on it.
