UPDATE: Found It! 1990 JD420 L&G - Hr Meter Location
Hello,
I am looking at the above and there does not seem to be a meter for hours. I see many units advertised with hrs listed. I see no signs of tempering on the unit or anything obviously missing.
Is there a few 420 owners out there who can provide some guidance for me on this? Was it an option, standard, DIY only...? I'm assuming this is a 1990 unit based on the 010 serial.
I've googled photo's and reviewed many, many advert photos but no sign of a meter in any of them. I also lifted the hood on the unit I'm thinking of purchasing and did a peak/poke for anything in there, nothing.
Any help appreciated,
-Van.
UPDATE (1985 model year, not 1990):
Ok, I had all but given up on this question, and make the appeal above for help, after searching endlessly without success. However, as with many things, and they seem more frequent as I get older, just when you stop looking, you find what you were looking for. SAL.
So, I was reviewing some shots of a 420 rebuild project some one had done and BINGO! There it was, under the hood and mounted to the side-wall just above the vent. Attaching pic in case anyone is interested or anyone ever comes here seeking same. After all, I did.
Interestingly, the 420 I'm looking at has this peculiar hole in the same location where 2 heavy leads from the battery end. My inquiry about that at the time was that they had run a heater/fan in a cab. I knew the hole was original and not cut for the purpose but let it slide at the time.
The long awaited John Deere 420 Hour Meter/Clock location is:

Carry on,
-Van.
