1991 8HP kohler Magnum 8 troybilt horse rototiller will not start

Hi, I have had this n 8 HP troybilt horsrototiller for22 years and never had a problem starting it until now. If I put gasoline directly into the sparkplug hole and pull the starting rope, it will fire right up for about 5 seconds. Do you think I should just rebuild the carb and hope
fom there?

Before "rebuilding" Check to see if fuel is making it's way to the float bowl., Id the tank screen plugged?, is the supply line plugged? Is there an inlet screen in the carb that is not passing fuel?

I've had "corrosion" build up in aluminum fittings so badly that no fuel made it to the float bowl. No "rebuild" was needed, just clean out the supply side.

It's an idea that could save some efforts... anyway

ps, every spring the 5HP B&S on the troybuilt Pony needs it's point's cleaned. Not even a trace of spark until that's done.

After cleaning the points with a crisp $10 bill wetted with some ether,....first pull! ;-)

Another thing to check. Does this motor have gravity feed gas, or does it have a fuel pump? If the diaphragm is shot or linkage worn, it may not be pumping. Easy fix, but not cheap. Like CalG said, check to see where the fuel flow is stopped.
