I have a 1993 Ford 3930 2wd that I've had for a little over a year. I love the tractor but it's super wide in the back because it looks like a previous owner put shorter wider wheels/tires on it. It's currently running 16.9x24 rear tires. I believe stock is 13.6x28. With the current set up it's 7' wide at the back that makes it difficult for bush hogging between row of trees on my property.

So my questions are....

Can I put narrower tires on the rims that are on it or would I have to get new rims and tires?

Would it make it that much narrower if I went back to the stock tire size?

If I have to get narrower rims does anyone know the bolt pattern I should be looking for and if I have to specifically look for Ford/NH rims or if other brands will fit.

Thanks

Dave

Put up a picture of your rims and wheels. They should be adjustable up to the point they hit the fender.
13.6 28's would definitely get the track width narrower, I run 14.9-28's on a 3910 (previous model to the 3930) and I have the outer edge of the rear tires inside of the width of my 6'mower.

Thanks for the reply. If my rear wheels could be adjusted that would be great. I don't see how they can unless I'm just not familiar with the process on this type of wheel (which is entirely possible). I've attach a couple of pics.

That's an easy one to adjust and you have clearance. Let me see if I can upload a page out of the book showing how to do it. Basically the wheel disk can be inverted to be dished out or dished in, the hoops of the rim can go on either side of the disk and the tire/rim can be swapped from one side to another to keep the direction of travel the same but changes the position of the hoops.
A myriad of possibilities exists as to how they can be set but you should be able to get them narrow enough for your needs.

The process involves removing the 8 bolts from the rim to disk, rotate the disk and walk the tire/rim away from the disk and into the desired place, reattach bolts.
Two drift punches to align holes will be very handy. Torque is 260 ft/lbs but I just use a 3/4" breaker bar and a 5' pipe and wrench em tight as I can get.

Message me an email address and I can email you the page in the book showing the configurations.

Yes totally adjustable. The center disk needs unbolted from the hub and the actual rim. It'll be some work though. After looking at it some more, you just might be able to unbolt the center wheel from the axle, and swap tires, left side to right, and vice versa.

Thanks for the info guys. Birdhunter1 I'll send you a PM with my e-mail address. Showcattle you're saying that the easiest way might be just to remove the 8 centre nuts and swap them from one side to the other so what was out will not be in and visa versa? Will I have to adjust my fenders and stabilizer bars or is that something that I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

What you are wanting to do is to move your tire closer to the fender. There really isn't anywhere for the fender and stabilizer to adjust or move to. Yes swapping the entire tire/rim/wheel from one side to another might do what you are wanting to do. There are all sorts of combinations when moving positions of the wheel disk and rim/tire.

Torque specs on the big center bolts of the wheel disc are 180 lbs/ft I think, I use the logic of a 3/4" breaker bar and about a 5' pipe and get them very tight.

It looks like the fenders and stabilizers can be moved in and out on the axle by removing/loosening the u-bolts. There is slots on the axle where they lock in.

Welcome to the Ford World. Also welcome to TBN.

As others have stated your wheel setup has many, many settings for width.

Just experiment and find the one that suits you.

I'm guessing that swapping left to right and right to left might move tires in about 3-4 inches. I'm just trying to guess from the pic. That'd reduce total width 6-8 inches. It might be more though, just depends on how close the center disk is to the middle of the wheel.
