Good day all! I've read and read on this forum and it's been a great help so far. However, i'm looking for some assistance on the wiring harness for my new to me 1720. The previous owner really dismantled the wiring harness adding push button start and bypassing a few safety switches(wires hanging everywhere). I could really use some help from someone with a similar year or at least post 1992 model 1720. What i need is to see how an unmolested wiring harness looks for a 95 1720 (or 93 and up) with the 12x4 transmission. (not the one with the gear selector in the dash). I got a used wiring harness that was supposed to be for this year and transmission BUT it seems like i have a couple extra connections under the dash (wrong harness?) which i'm thinking may go to a tractor with the 12x12 transmission.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Beyond the transmission option dictating the location of the neutral safety switch early 1720 tractors had a park brake indicator switch that worked off the brake latch located below the steering column. Later tractors had the park brake latch near the right foot platform and no switch or functional indicator lamp. I believe the proper operators manual for your tractor build date will have the correct wiring diagram.

Rickb makes sense now! So I definitely have the early harness for the 1720 tractor. My parking brake is down at the feet and the extra connector would be for that sensor. So in my non electrical engineering brain I would think I could use this harness and eliminate that plug? I really have no option to buy a different one (one that's correct) unless someone can direct me to a good used parts dealer that has 1720's!

I believe you could use that harness

Rick,

I ended up getting that harness to work! I did have to end up re wiring the connection to the pto saftey switch and rear lights. 👍 now I have a tractor that works properly with the key switch!!

Thanks

Did you get a wiring diagram? I have a 94 with lot of bogus mods by a previous owner and the local Ford New Holland dealer claims the ignition harness doesn't exist anymore and that there are no detailed parts diagrams for the various harnesses with wire colors etc, and relays, and especially nothing for the glow plugs upstream of the wire harness that connects to the glow plug. Thanks, Rob
