I just purchased the truck at a state auction, runs good, but I can't get the dump to lift. The trunk dumper package was, I think, orginally installed by Crysteel (or Crysteel equipment dealer), sticker adhered to the dump bed.
I know that the dump system works with a transmission driven hydralic pump.
I can't see the cylinder/s because I can't get the lift to work. The pto is engaged via a pull lever by the driver seat, and the dump is operated via a forward/backward lever mounted on the vehicle hump. When I pull the pto lever and pull the dump lever forward or back I can hear some noise coming from the hydralic pump. Either the pump is bad, or I don't know how to operate. Can someone out there help, sure would appreciate suggestions, etc.
Thanks, PEM

That first response was too much wiseazz...so I'm editing.
Try posting your question in the TBN's construction equipment forum...you might get your answer there.

The PTO is shifted with the trans in "N", I'm sure you know that but.....

With the PTO engaged, pulling the lift/dump lever should cause the bed to raise, BUT, in many of the installations (State/county) they also use a bad latch to prevent the employees from accidentally raising the bed while driving. Make sure there are no latches holding the bed down.

Assuming all that is OK, it may just be low on fluid, pumps "whine" when starved for hydraulic oil or over loaded - similar, but not identicle noise in both cases.

Sounds like it is just low on fluid. If the pump is growling everything is turning. Even a bad pump will pick an empty bed usually.

can't help with the hydraulics but do suggest that blocking be used if the box is raised and you start crawling around between the the box and frame.

I didn't see trans type anyway put trans in nuetral pull on lever to rise, if still noise look under truck if its a 4x4 see if pto is on trnsfer case if so same thiing put transfer in nuetral try to rise. last resort turn eng.off pull lever back trans in nuetral start eng. always use caution

I have owned / opperated several of these. There were a ton of differant set ups by differant installers, all are differant but simiuliar.
First it sounds like the fuild leval is low but in most cases you will not be able to at fuild with out the bed lifted, some of them you may be able to pump fulid into them.
alot of these are cable opperated check to make sure the cable is fully engaging the pump, oil / check for full movement.
the last one i owned was lever opperated Opperated with 2 levers and there positions per lever. you needed to have each lever in the correct spot for it to lift. once you get the hang of it its no prob.

post a picture.
Make sure you greese the fittings on the rear pivit points!! about every 4 weeks.
