273 TYM. 2009 //Yardmachines 7 Speed Shift-on-the-goScotts L2048
Happy New Year to all! I brought in my New Year with my first 50 hour service on my 09' 273. Actually, I was at 45 hours but after having read numerous posts from others like Tom59 having found so much gunk in their systems and since the day was a good one weather-wise for being in the garage I decided to just get-er-done! I am extremely happy to report that in the engine system my magnetic drain plugs were absolutely clean. There wasn't a single metal piece clinging to them! Within the hydraulic system I wasn't quite so lucky. While there wasn't any large metal particles, there was quite alot of what I would call "tiny slivers" connected at the magnetic drain plugs. I atribute that to what I read from Wayne County Hose about hose makers/installers who don't clean out the hoses prior to instal. They looked like what I would guess that microscopic hose slivers would look like. I don't believe that any damage has possibly been done and I am glad that I now have new life-blood in my machine.
One item that I had quite a struggle with was getting the strainer to pop out. I took both bolts out of the housing and it came "slightly" loose enough to wiggle side-ways a fraction at a time, but it was a task getting the strainer to wiggle and pop free! After it did I saw how it fits and I sure hope that I didn't nick the o-ring putting it back in because that was just as much of a task! Man, that sure is a snug fitment! I've only run it long enough to check for any immediate and obvious leaks. Seeing none so far, I am feeling confident that I was successful but will keep an eye on it for the next few operating hours. Thus far, I am quite happy with how my machine operates.
My next enhancement project is the addittion of a 3 spool valve and rear remotes for top-n-tilt. I've already purchased the valve, cylinders, and mounting bracket kit but more items are needed and will have to wait as $ comes along. After reading 3rrr's numerous exploits into the hydraulic arean I am wanting to try those re-useable hoses/ends. I would like to make my hoses myself so I can route them myself exactly where I want them to go. My main stalling point at this time is $ and the fact that I know zilch about hydraulic fittings. Does anyone out thete know what type of fitting the Koreans used on the 273? I would assume Metric threads, but don't want to tear system apart, open up, and then find out I have wrong pieces on hand. Mine came with (1) set of rear remotes already and I see the valve located under the seat, so assume I would need to tap into system there. But, it looks like cutting open metal lines and inserting tee's etc., etc., and that really terrifies me at this point! Maybe not so bad if I knew the correct types of fitting, threads, etc., etc. Although I'd like to do this mod myself so that I could further learn, route my hoses and rear remotes exactly as I want them; I may just end up taking my parts/pieces/tractor to Tractor Barry at the Montana dealer in town and getting it done. I really don't want to open up the system and screw something up in the hydraulics. Suggestions??
Anyhow--just wanted to say Happy New Year and inform about my findings within the heart and blood of my beast.
Happy Tractorin'......Gregster613

Slivers on the magnet Hydro filter man that is bad news on a TYM. Have you read the post on this problem indicated by small metal slivers on the magnet? I haven't either cause its normal.:D:D:D Welcome to TBN and by the way I saw the same thing on my 50 hour service of my Kubota L4400 HST.

Most of the hose ends I have had to replace were BPT (Brittish Pipe Thread), neither standard US or metric pipe thread but with modern equipment coming from all around the world it can be found at a price. Don't mess with the local parts store, go to a place that specializes in hydraulic hoses or foreign equipment. It is more expensive than standard fittings but with a little calling around can be found.

I just performed my 350 hour service and I'm extremely happy to report that there was nothing more than "minor" shavings found on the drain plug magnets, in the transmission. About what I would expect from normal wear! Not that I was expecting anything else - just reporting what I feel is/has been a very robust tractor thus far. I used a Napa Gold - 1586 filter, cross-referenced from the Donaldson's that originally came on the tractor. Other than the color (white) versus (orange) it fit just fine. And the ouch - it cost $42.00 - so it must be a good one! The only thing I noticed different this time - from my 50 hour service - is that when I started it up to cycle the fluid around and ensure it was topped off, it made a large "whoosh" sound and then it (sound) went away. I believe it was air escaping from the empty filter and the fact that I still had the fill cap out (in case I needed to add some fluid) allowed me to more readily hear it. I haven't actually moved (driven) the tractor yet as it was late when I finished, but I don't expect any problems.

I can't have any right now, I've been really using the loader a lot lately. I brought in over 60 yards of fill dirt and have been leveling up an area for a new patio extension off of my house. Done with that part and am now re-building the driveway entrance to the carport. I know - no pictures - it didn't happen. Sorry about that but when I've got a job to do and get time in the seat - - that's where I want to stay! Don't seem to find the time/want to jump up and down and take pictures. Ha! I've got some of the concrete being poured and various throughout the entire long build process but I haven't down-loaded to the computer yet. I will - eventually though. I'll be back later with some. Just wanted to report that at 350 hours all is still good!
Happy Tractor experiences to all -- Greg
