1st frost of the season this morning.

1st frost of the season this morning on the east coast of Lake Huron. Wasn't a heavy frost as some areas of the lawn were not white.
It should speed up the dry down of the soybeans and grain corn. The beans had been barely showing any sign of withering or browning. Most of the corn is still a full green and growing. The kernels are dented but mushy.

Up here on the north coast of Huron........we got our first frost Sept 11th and our third occurred today.
I rototill the garden this weekend if dry enough, and pumpkins come out tonight.

We had our first frost yesterday, also. I had some tomatoes covered, but it looks like I lost them last night.
It's that time of year though.

I had some of the leaves on my squash plants turn black about a week ago. I don't think its frosted yet but indications are that its close at hand.

this was our third and heaviest frost this morning.we need rain in the worst way.water table is down too low.

Had a couple of light frosts so far - covered the tomatoes, peppers & sweet potatoes so no real damage (house/garden is at bottom of long slope so we get frost early). I moved the ditch from my lane (500' from front of house to the road) to the middle of the adjacent woods so the heavy rain on the weekend was a test of the new layout (it passed). Unfortunately, it will slow my work down as I am digging a pond and using the clay/top soil to level the old ditch! All this to make the lane more presentable/be able to mow the sides. Doing it all with the JD - probably should have my head examined although it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to move the clay a few hundred feet.

Two nights of frost as well - first for the year. Last year the last week of October was the first frost.
Nice these past two days.

They are calling for a possible frost here in SE Ohio tonight. They said it will be a scattered hit or miss kind of thing. Thank God I have free gas heat and don't have to cut wood anymore. I love the wood heat but uncle Arthur don't like me cutting much wood these days. Getting old definitely ain't for sissies.
