Not a big deal (I hope!)...I see some gear oil that looks like it came from the front right axle. A few drops which landed very close to the inside of the front right tire. Did I blow a seal? What happened?? how do you access the oil? (don't see a cap or anything that looks like one)

The terrain I was on while "hogging" was so rough, I tore off one of the little turnbuckles that stabilizes the hitch arms. Yikes!! Is this normal?

This 2210D is one tough little mother. It cut almost four acres of dense blackberry thickets interspersed w/4-5' saplings....just ate it up with no complaint or problems. Oh, did I mention there are lots of steep hills and rocks? :) :)

BTW five straight hours of operation @ 2000 rpm + -.......2 gallons fuel burned. (wow)

As always, any advice or ideas will be appreciated.

First congrats on the tractor....nice looking rig. As for the gear oil.....you should have a cap and dipstick on the right front housing...go to the Hoye website and look at part #23. Before tearing anything apart......try to determine where the leak is coming from. If it's relatively minor......put in some Lucas power steering stop leak. Several folks out there use this stuff. I tried on my 186d.....stopped the leak immediately. Hopefully....this cheap fix can work for you.

I d just keep it topped of by checking the dipstick the other guy referred to, and if and when it gets so bad it annoys you you will have to take that hub apart to put that little seal back in. Several on here have done it with pics. I think that Johndeer guy who is 14, maybe 15 now had pics of when he did the front knuckle on his 18?? something. It requires you dissasemble that whole knuckle if i remember right.

As far as the turnbuckle goes it must have been loose, there weldel on there i think or attached with a bolt to the axle so you must have really caused the bushhog to swing by having them loose and crossed a ditch or something that cause side sway in it to bust it or you hung it on a pretty substantial stump, there not that flimsy. Buy a new one at TSC and get the welder out i guess?

Thanks for the help guys. I opened the cap; it still has plenty of oil, I'll need to clean it up to see if I can tell where she's leaking.

As far as the turnbuckle, I'm sure I hung up on something. It was attached to a hole in the hitch arm. I can just use a shackle to secure the new one.

The people who own the lot across the street from me allowed me to clear the front of their property. It had grown up and was blocking the view of the ocean from my house. The brush over there is so thick I was spinning wheels in 4wd as I tried to clear it!!!!!! I'm learning a lot in a hurry... ;)

FWIW, I've had a slow leak on my F16D since 1999. I've probably topped it off once a year with gear oil and keep rolling.

I did replace a seal on a YM1401D for a friend many years ago, and it wasn't too bad to do and it did stop his leak.

I've also had problems loosing links and stuff while bushhogging, and that's been on my Belarus, Ford, Kioti and Yanmar. I think that is just an occupational hazard.

Good luck and take care.

I've had lynch pins and hair clips pulled out but not my turnbuckle?

Was that the original Yanmar turnbuckle and sway chain assembly, or a shiny new 'equivalent' unit? The quality of steel used in China replica parts can vary, occasionally down to real poor.

My YM186D had new replacement sway chains on it for some reason. After brushhogging 8 acres I noticed that the new clevis was stretching where it attaches to the back of the tractor, and upon close examination found cracks where the clevis pin was digging right through the pot-metal clevis. I replaced the clevis only, not the chains or turnbuckle, with a chain-splice double clevis (if that's what you call it - pins through each end) and no problems since. When I get some time I'll find the photos I took and start a new thread on that topic.

They look awfully shiny to be original...;)

There is down pressure on the loader, I was simply pushing the lever past it to the "float" setting. :) :) Started her up, pulled her out of the garage, and.....down pressure!!!

I had the same leak on the left side. I changed the knuckle seal and it was still leaking. Upon further investigation, I found the top 4 bolts on the axle stubshaft flange were loose. Tightened them and leak was gone.

Thanks, Henhouse. I'll check & see if that's it..... it's leaking a fair bit.
