I have a used yanmar 2000 25 hp 2wd tractor.

questions are.

What gear(h or L) and number gear should i be in when mowing with 4 ft. mower and what pto gear?

What gear when harrowing with 4ft.disk harrow?
Done busted 2 different radiator hoses so i'am doing something wrong.don't remember what gears i was in when i busted the hoses. Thanks.

Vince - Welcome to the club !

PTO 1st Gear - 540

Reguarding the gear you need to drive your tractor in depends on the ground condition, wet dry slick - Tall grass, short grass, thick grass, thin grass - Hills, flat etc etc - Just use the same logic you would if you were on a riding lawnmower - Too slow is better than too fast - Obviously safety is job #1.

Same ideas/concepts apply to harrowing. Probably a better question than what speed you should be at is "What RPM speed should I be at?" And I would say you need to be in the 2200 RPM range.

Hope this helps - I'm sure others will chime in.

Good Luck !

brusting rad. hoses shouldn't have anything to do with what gear you'er in. Probably just old radiator hoses that needed replacing any way

Welcome to TBN!!

My question too would be "why are the rad hoses breaking?" Is it simply that they are old and need replacing--If that is the case, you should replace all the rubber elements, hoses and belts.

Or is it because you are developing woo much pressure in the rad. Cap wrong, combustion leaks, over heating.

Again welcome!

When you get it all back together again check some things before you put it back to work. I would first test the idiot light for temp by grounding out the sensor wire to make sure the light comes on. 2) I would leave the cap off and look for air bubbles in the radiator (combustion leak--head gasket, crack) and I would examine the rad cap carefully (what is the pressure rating, can you compress the spring, is the rubber in good condition.

Flushing the system would definitely be a plus, especially if there is a lot of rusty or nasty looking junk. I believe that the 2000 does not have a water pump (one can be added, but does not come with one from the factory, if I remember correctly. The system depends on being clean for good circulation and cooling.

The YM2000 does have a water pump, 13lb cap.

Thanks Danny for correcting me. I could not remember which--must be the 1500 and 1700 huh?

Well then I have heard of the possibility of the water pump also drawing air and making bubbles, but most likely if you have bubbles it is combustion air.

The cap is designed to let water out as it warms and expands. The water should flow from the cap into the overflow bottle & then, as the engine cools back down, the water is sucked back into the engine. If the engine was warming up then it sounds like the water you saw should be normal.
