anyone know where there are any used or nearly new dirt pans for sale. 2 or 3 yd capacity that a 70 hp 4 wh drive tractor could pull? thanks

Check machinery trader online, they usually have some for sale.

I assume you mean a scraper that hauls the load? I think you could pull a larger scraper than 2-3 cuyd. I pull a 5.5 cuyd clamshell scraper with my M9540. Filling it takes some finesse in dry hard clay but generally handles it.

A smaller version of what you have is what I am interested in, I know ashland makes a 2.5.cu yd (50 hp min)and a 5 cu yd scraper/dirt pan (100hp min). I know those things are hard to pull. If I could find a good used 2/3 yd machine I would be very interested. Bill

Filling is the hardest part. In that pic I was scraping virgin clay. I was also hauling 1/4 mile so I wanted to take as much material with me as possible. So I'd fill my loader bucket, which added traction, then fill the scraper.

I bought this scraper for $4,700. It's at least 30 years old. Uses a single hydraulic circuit. I've hauled thousands of cuyds of dirt. When not in use it is parked in a shed. I'll never sell it. Very handy to have when needed.

I only offer my experience with a bigger one to open that potential for you in case you find one for sale.

The guy I bought this one from has tried to buy it back twice. :)

I guess they have to be quite heavy in order to cut the soil also I would think the more soil they pick up the better they cut.

Unless the soil is like concrete mine will cut more than I can pull. The slope of the cutting edge provides that. I'm almost always "carrying" the cutting edge to keep from stalling my tractor.

Ideally, I like a long run in the borrow area so I can make a thin cut. This provides dirt that is easily managed without huge slabs or chunks.

Ok that makes since, I bet it takes some getting used to in order to find the proper technique.

Yes. And the method used changes with dirt conditions.

Here's a video I posted on another thread of a 13 cuyd scraper in action.

Thanks for sharing that, seeing is believing. That thing does a great job moving that amount of dirt in a short amount of time.
