I pulled the cotter pin out of the nut that tightens the friction disks on the 3PH postion control and loosened the nut one full turn....... AND MAN DID IT MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!

Hey Brandon,

Did you ever take those pictures? I finally got my tractor back from Ark. and was eyeballing the 3PH control but don't want to make a move until I am sure what I was adjusting.

How'd you figure this out? Obviously, you are a little sharper than me when it comes to mechanical things. I am quite mechanically declined (dis-inclined?) I would like learn how to make this adjustment though. I was loading my tractor backwards on my trailer yesterday and I tried to ease the bush hog down with the rear wheel hanging over the front of the trailer. My uncle was giving me hand signals but the tractor kept rolling backwards toward the front of the trailer and every time I attempted to lower the bush hog it was out of position and instead of easing it down I kept slamming the rear of the deck down on the front pipe railing of the trailer. No damage but made a racket and all that slamming and jerking was so un-necessary.

So if you can post a picture of where you made the adjustment it would be most helpful to me.

Thanks!

Hey Chris,

Glad to hear you have you tractor back local!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I have not had a chance to take the pics yet. My sister and brother-in-law have my camera and I will not get it back until Sunday (HOPEFULLY!).

As soon as I get it back I will take the pics.

It is pretty easy though. If you look under the fender from behind the tractor you will see where the position control lever comes down and is attached to a shaft. There is a little linkage that is attached to the lever on one end and another smaller lever on the other end. The smaller lever is towards the front of the tractor. Behind this smaller lever you will see a nut with a cotter pin through it. This is the adjustment for the friction disc.

Remove the cotter pin. (This is the hardest part of the whole exercise...Would make it a lot easier to take off the rear tire but that is not necessary) Take your time and after messing with it for a few minutes you should be able to get it out. I used a combination of a 12" pair of channel locks and a 12" needle nose pliers.

Once you get the pin out take a wrench and loosen the nut one turn. At this point you can start up the tractor and use the lever so you can get the right tension for your taste. Once you get it set just line up the nut so you can replace the pin. Insert the pin and re-bend it and you are done!

It sound a lot harder than it really is. It took me about 15 minutes total and that was with my 2 yr. old son in the garage getting in to everything while I was TRYING to work!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Sounds easy enough. I will give it a look see first chance I get and see if I can figure out how to do it. Thanks!
