This was fence post fix and replace day. Started by making new teeth for the PH digger. When I was putting a sharp edge on one of them using a grinding wheel, I had gloves on, and the glove index finger got caught between the tool rest and the wheel. This tore the glove (only) open and made me count my blessings after counting all my fingers on my left hand. Could have been a bloody, boney mess.

Back to work.

While trimming back some small trees along the fence line with a small chain saw, I also had my chipper going full song. For this I wear ear muffs. When it was time to saw/trim some more, I picked up the saw and was startled to realize IT WAS STILL RUNNING. I had grabbed it by the handle and had given it some throttle. Yep, the chain rolled a few times against my chapps. The one knee deal again...

After that, all went well. But how bad can you screw up and still get away with it?

A bit thankful for those chaps, I bet. I've been there and have three pair of chaps with hit marks. All different stories from yours.
Good that you post for others' benefit too.

When cutting trees it is always better to have only 1 machine running at a time. Also anytime you set down a machine shut it off. I have heard of people falling on a chain saw after setting it down. However imagine if you did not have your chaps on! I had 1 accdent and after that I bought chaps. Glad you didn't get hurt.

There are them days when one blunders from one oppsi to next be it involving safety or just doing things correctly. :D:D

Now I seem to have many of those! If I can catch myself in time I'll retire to the recliner and read a book. :D:D

Those chaps seem pretty cheap after something like that. It is time to buy a new pair. They don't work as well after being cut once.

This is not my story but a good friend's

A Bad Day!

Got a brand new John Deere with full cab and a round bale grabber on the front to put in his brand new steel building.

He just had to do some thing with it. So he was going to finally get rid of an old wooded boat by his pond. Chains up the boat gives it a lift and starts to drive along the edge of the pond. The edge gives out and the tractor tips into the pond. The tractor on its side with about a foot of water running into the cab. He forces open the door, which get very heavy when pushing UP. crawls out and heads to get his other older tractor to pull it out.

He is very **** about his stuff, he always knows his tractors are parked with brakes locked and in neutral. Gets to his tractor in his brand new building, from the ground hits the key, it fires up and to his horror it is at high throttle and IN GEAR. Luckily in reverse and it was a tricycle front end

The tractor proceeds to race backwards and push one of his hay wagons out through the back of the building then stalls.

His grand children had been in the barn and were playing on the tractors!

Lots of damage and embarrassment, but not hurt, just a little bruised from the tip over.

SOME divers take the second one on any given day as a sure sign that they are "OFF".
Since a third one could be the fatal one they pack up and quit.

It may be superstition, it may be animal wisdom, but they live to come back and dive another day.

There are accidents, but they all have causes.
I try to ask myself, "Was that me ?" and if so why ?

I usually know when I'm "OFF" and I will defer hazardous work.

Agree, the second near miss is a sign that it's time to get back inside the house and sober up.:D No question somedays things are just a little off for a variety of reasons, it's good fortune some get a chance to make that realization in a timely manner, others aren't quite so lucky.
