I was wondering if anyone has built a plate on there FEL to angle a plow blade. If so I could sure use some advise. I have looked on the net. and seen quite a few, but the pictures don't really show it all. I have some ideas. but am not sure I want ot jump befor I look it all over real well. Thank you , BF

plow blade, do you mean a dirt blade ?

On my loader, i dont want an angle blade that pushes aside... Even though i built that loader myself and i'm pretty sure its quite tougher than most factory loaders...

Well yep it is a dirt blade. I have built some roads with it, and now I am thinking it would be nice to be able to angle it for plowing snow. So I am looking into building an adapter to go on the FEL and then build my angle system off of that. So I am looking for any ideas.....BF

If you are just using it for snow removal, it will be o.k. but for dirt... It causes serious side forces on the tractor, especially in the area just behind the clutch housing. Tractors arent designed to take a side force, so if you do, please use heavy axle bars.

Also, when using it for dirt it wont be of much use up front: The county here, maintains roads with a loader mounted front blade, and a land drag for touching up and windrow elimination, on a JD 7610
I've seen them trying to cut potholes out of a hard packed road: the blade pushed the tractor into the ditch as soon as they give a little downforce, even if they turn the steering wheel in the most opposed direction.

Blackfoot, I'd like to do the same thing. I'd like to mount a fixed angled blade on the FEL bucket. I think it would be a lot quicker than a rear blower to clean up a small snowfall.
From what I understand a spring trip is important.

Blackfoot,

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for but I have a 6 foot dirt blade hooked to my loader arms via a homebrew adapter. I added the power angle cylinder the next year. Have pushed snow high as 12 inches for 4 years now. If this helps you I have more pictures and can supply more information.

zmansmac, are the wheels on your blade to keep it up off your stone road or driveway?

Sincerely, Dirt

zman,

I like that setup a lot. Because I plow both gravel, and blacktop, it would be so nice to have it angled back for the stones (blade riding on the feet), and angled forward for the blacktop (blade resting directly on the blacktop).

I think I'll be copying that setup in the near future :)

On most pickup mounted blades eg Fisher, they use a mushroomshaped skid plate that is cast iron.

Main reason is when the blade is angled off to one side the plate does not care which way it is aimed.
Just kinda slips along.
For height adjustement they simply add or remouve washers from the shaft.

Tires can go flat plus they would tend to freeze up in that crappy slushy muck that we have to plow.

It is the KISS approach. (keep it simple and stupid!)
