I asked for opinions on a old Dearborn and a "newer" Ford plow. Didnt but either of them  I found a older Ford plow for less than the Ford and more than the Dearborn from a local guy that is here on TBN. It was used harder than the Ford but the price was better.

That is after plowing the first deer food plot. The moldboards were rusty and the dirt didnt clean them as much as I hoped. Pulled hard and didnt want to dive, some of the trouble was the plow, some was my learning curve. My soil is pretty good, not much rock to scour the plows though.

Put the wire brush on the grinder to the plows and then hit it with some cheap spray paint. Then I went out and cross plowed the plot the next evening. Much better, I actually rolled some winrows that time.

My neighbor is a old farm girl and I was getting a hard time about the condition of my equipment. Remember, I owned the plow for ohhhhh 2 days /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I think its a hobby of hers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had some IH red and a 94 cent spray can of black, a grinder and a wire wheel. It looks pretty good at 20 yards. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am pretty happy with it. All of the bolts that I have had to move have moved so far. All of the grease fittings took grease. That means that whoever used it last took care of it. The C-clip for the landslide was broken so I got a E-clip. When I took the pic the landslide was on the trailer. It will go back on tonight.

I am about 1/2 tempted to go get that crusty Dearborn, this was kind of fun. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hey Var,

How does the 3510pull the two bottom. Any troubles? I have an overgrown meadow that I'd like to turn over, maybe food plot it. I wonder how much of plow my 2615 with R4's would. Would be nice to be able to use a nice little two bottom, but don't know if she could pull it.

Lack of draft controll can be a doosey on plowing and learning curve as well...

I'm sure that if you already used the plow that you know that paint doesn't like to stick to a moldboards. They work better clean and shiny anyways. Once you are done using them give them both a real light coating of grease and it will keep them from rusting until you use them the next time.

The 3510 didnt even grunt. If I had any open land I would be tempted to find a small 3 bottom. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I run chains on it 24/7/365 because I dont own a level peice of land anywhere that wasnt made by a machine. I lost traction in the clay for a second or 2 when the bars gummed up until I hit the diff lock.

This plow was made for the 8-9 N series Fords so you can figure out what HP the had where and compare it to your tractor. I think they were 20ish at the drawbar. I am not real sure. You can probably handle a 2 bottom. Best to ask a real farmer type.

Soundguy,
The 3510 has draft control. It seems to broaden the learning curve for me since I have never plowed with a draft control. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'll get it. After I figure out how deep I want the landslide, the best drawbar left to right setting, what exactly that adjustment screw on the right side that goes around the drawbar adjusts (I'm thinking point angle once you have it set up for depth) , the best speed, the angle........... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Pineridge,
Mirror finish would be the cats butt, unless I find a big field that has some stone in it, that isnt going to happen. The paint is better than the pockmarks for rolling dirt and I figure .94/can I will live with it for now. I put the wire brush on the grinder to it and then a sanding disk. It is a bit better now and it rolls dirt. If I can get then to shine, or this fall, they are going to wear grease.
I do have a guy at work whos FIL does some real farming, I might be able to roll a field this fall to clean them up. Dont know if I want to get yelled at for doing it wrong though /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Either way, it needs to spend some time in the dirt to get right. The other thing it is doing is playing scarfire. I am loosining up dirt to move with the FEL for a shed/barn so it has some work.

Matt,
No pics of the patch. It wasnt real large but it was what I had cleared. I have another spot that is bigger that I want to do but I have some burning and rooting around to do first.

Ken,
Those Sherman Williams rebuilds do look pretty good, from a distance /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Auto body wax will work on for rust prevention too, but I used grease
