My neighbor and myself were trying to pull my shed to a new location and my MF35 wouldnt budge it. My neighbors uncle came in with his big MF 4x4 and pulled it without breaking a sweat, we hooked the chains to his draw bar, Is this basically what a draw bar is for pulling or are there other things it can be used for? I also have a GC2300 would the draw bar for the MF35 be the same for the GC2300?
Thanks

The drawbar is the point to pull with on a tractor. It keeps the attached weight low to help traction and to keep the tractor from doing a wheel stand. For saftey you should not hook to anything up high on a tractor.

You are asking about the bar sticking out low from under the tractor and not a drawbac connected to the 3 pt aren't you? The ones that go in the 3 pt holes are not as well suited for heavy pulling.

Your Massey GC2300 may have what is refered to as a "Hitch Plate" instead of a drawbar. In the center of the rear of the tractor, between the lower 3pt arms you will see a heavy projection that is rounded in shape with a hole in it. On many Subcuts, that replaces the drawbar, and is used for exactly the same purposes. CCH has given some very good advice, and that should be heeded on your small tractor just as it is on a larger one.

Thanks for the information. I was talking about the draw bar that attaches to the three point arms, but on both of my tractors I do have the hitch plate.
Guess I will stay with the hitch plate. Both of my tractors have a heavy steel flat bar bolted to the hitch plate that I use for towing my sprayer, generator and small trailers. This was my first attempt at dragging something this heavy (19' x 11' shed empty ) this was just to much weight for my 35.

Remember with a 3pt hitch drawbar, there is nothing to keep it from lifting unless you have a stabilizer bar going to the top link mount, or chain to the drawbar. Over the years, that has given a few folks some unexpected surprises. :D

In some cases, and in some catalogues, etc., they call the one that fits between the two lower links of the 3-point simply a "DRAWBAR", and the one that sticks straight out the back from below the rear differential a "SWINGING DRAWBAR" even though many of them no longer "swing". On some tractors, that swinging drawbar is attached securely at the front end of it and can be used sticking straight out, or it can be swung to either side and pinned in place. That feature can be especially helpful with wide implements that you want to offset to the right when towing them on public roads.

I've had a problem towing a flatbed trailer (for a Halloween hayride) with a 3PT towbar on my GC2300. What has anyone else done to tow a regular trailer hitch? Can the static drawbar take a ball? It really rides too low to keep the trailer level.

With the 3PT hitch drawbar, the bar kept rotating the ball in the trailer's hitch. Ended up mangling the ball.

Larry, the static drawbar, or swinging drawbar, is generally the preferred place to hook a trailer to. Some of them are so thick that you may have to hunt a bit to find a hitch ball with a long enough shank, but they do make them.

But if you want to use the 3-point hitch drawbar, the cheapest and simplest way is to buy, or make, a drawbar lock. There are probably lots of places to buy them, but I just went to the first place I found on google that had a picture of one. So to to this website and scroll down to the DBL-2 drawbar lock. If you click on the little picture, you can get a bigger picture of it.

I put a 2" receiver hitch on the tow plate of the 2300. You can then use any hitch (rise or fall) you want to tow most any trailer (within weight limits). I bought mine at Cabela's for $50 and use it on the 2300 and the ATV as needed to tow. It bolts into the hole in the tow plate. It can be mounted either direction up to get the height you need.

Larry,

Look at this one, a different spin on 3pt hitch which allows you to go up/down.
